幫幫忙:選擇小學 ( St Paul convent or Maryknoll Convent)

各位,

我住黃埔區, 有St Paul convent (Causeway Bay) 和 Maryknoll convent (Kowloon Tong); 二選一, 你們怎樣選擇呢? 請不要考慮遠近問題. 我想選擇最好的一間而已.

2校都有不少共通點：女校、程度高、有直屬中學。

我會選Maryknoll Convent，因爲不用付學費，學生大部分（只要成績不太差）也都可以原校升中，F. 1 - F. 3也不需要付學費。另方面，Maryknoll地處Kowloon Tong，周圍最“近”的商場都要去Festival Walk，放學後周圍去的話不太方便，可以說誘惑比較少，對學生來説是較好的。

還有一點，Maryknoll的校園不細，空氣總比銅鑼灣好，這個較minor的factor也可以考慮。

My selection is based on:

DSS- control quality of students by interview
Subsidized - by lucky draw

--> F. 1 - F. 3也不需要付學費
not sure whether it will be the same when our kids goes to High school.

--> 放學後周圍去
It shoudn't apply to Primary school students

What do you mean by MCS 已淪為BAND 2. Do you mean academical standard?

From the bottom of my heart, MCS is still a good school.

However, my friends who are teachers did mention to me that it is harder for Subsidized schools (SS) to keep the standard as DSS or private schools (PS). SS don't have as many choices as DSS or PS in selecting students, teachers or textbooks. That's why more and more "good" schools change to DSS in order to get more control.

唔好玩啦，MCS仍然很TOP。有興趣的話請到EMB website睇睇她的視學報告，對她的評價甚高。

The students in MCS(PS) are in two ends.

One is very top and very high standard.  One is in normal standard, but their level is still far over when compare to most other schools.


I can give you an example. One student was ranked in last 5-10 in her class. She is asked to shift to other school.  Then she went to a normal school and got the rank in top 1-5 in her class now.

It is heard from the existing parents that the school only guarantee 20 girls entering the secondary school.  Finally, it will be less than half of P.6 are accepted to go to F.1.  So, most of their parents are so sacared.

You mean St Paul's or Maryknoll?

ST. PAUL CONVENT係一條龍, 由幼稚園可以直升上中學, 小學考試只考中, 英, 數3科, 合格就可以升上中學, 壓力比較小.  

MARY KNOLL讀書壓力比教大, 要有好RESULT才可升上中學.

如果小朋友可以應付得來, 選MARYKNOLL的優點是不用交學費.

如果想小朋友讀得輕鬆些, ST PAUL CONVENT會是好選擇. 我見我外甥女都讀得幾輕鬆, 起碼不用好似我個女, 要考所有科目. 而且讀2年級都可以看些幾深的英文書.

I will choose Maryknoll Convent of course!
Mainly because MCS has a higher standard than St Paul's Convent in all fields. Simple as that.

Unless parents are concerned about chances of promoting to F.1 which St Paul's Convent will have no such problem.

MCS and SPCC are Band 1. I don't understand why some parents esp (新加入國民) like to post some incorrect or unconfirmed info from unknown sources.... Please look at the 視學報告 from EMB. It was being praised.

If financial ability is not a problem, if got a place in both schools, will still choose MCS but not SPCC. if got a place in DGS and MCS, then will choose DGS! So don't say that i am biased towards MCS! In my ranking, I will place DGS and MCS 1st and 2nd, and SPCC maybe 4th or 5th!

agree with kissie: it's simply the parents who don't want to go through all these school selection procedure again during P.6 to F.1. If money is not a problem, I will still choose the 'better school' regardless of whether it is subsidised or DSS.

A F.4 student from Maryknoll told me not to expect any 10A student from MCS because the school doesn't allow their students to take 10 HKCEE subjects, although they perform v well in HKCEE: average no. of A each student get is 2.12, which is comparable to Queens, St Paul's co-ed. (mingpao source) I believe in published results and not by word of mouth from gossiping.
