P.5 PET pass 唔好考過?其實平時佢做pass papers Reading 準確率好高,但results just borderline near to good 最差呢part .Writing exceptional,Listening n Speaking  good ?定操下佢考FCE ???定就咁算??for 升中有冇幫助?

我建議你小朋友重考PET, 76分太低, 考FCE上不了Level B2的.  不過是小五生, 有時間呢.

我應該解釋清楚我建議重考的理由。首先，我說76分太低，是分數低，不是你小朋友英文能力低，本來PET就不是設計給小五這麼年幼的學生考的，香港的家長都很進取。

對於考試，除了為升學，我覺得還有一個非常正面的作用，就是増強小朋友的自信。自信是一層層建立起的，一個考試做得差，自信就減一點，如果某級考試不理想甚至肥佬，還堅持升級，越考越差，小朋友對該科的自信和興趣很快給消盡了。所以我極抗拒越級考試。不只語言，其他如音樂學習也一樣。

再者，鞏固好PET級的能力對考FCE一定要幫助，你損失的就是一次考試費，但換來小朋友一些自信。

Agree!

That's the reason why I let my girl (also in G.5) try KET instead of PET directly. She got distinction in KET and very happy. In fact the level that she achieved is equivalent to PET pass, i.e. B1 in CEFR Level. But she will be more happy and confident in getting distinction in KET rather than pass in PET.

Though she has confident to try PET in the near future, I won't let her try so soon until her English level is more solid so as to get a good result rather than just pass.

Personally, I don't think these kind of certs are useful in enrolling secondary school. But they can provide you and your child a subjective indication of how good your child's English level is or at least at what level your child's English is attained.

Add oil without pressure!

Totally agree with you, especially the self-esteem part.  PET is useful for entering good sec. school, but not much use for top grade schools.

Good points, total agreed.
The foundation is not solid, do not take next level.
English cert is no use for secondary place, just infomation only.
I stopped all english exam of my Kid when good result of FCE received in P4.

If my daughter got 87/100 in KET.  Should she go next step ?  Pls share opinion.  Thx.

It depends on how old is your daughter.  If she is below 10, then go for PET.

他只是GradeB，所以不打算考CPE，待他小五開學才考慮。應該是我不想浪費$。
因為對升中來說，這些成績，只有很低的參考價值。
當到真正面試，是龍是蛇，即刻一清二楚的

大家講到考呢類試好像完全沒有參考價值，但我又不覺得咁差。 要學校知你開口是龍是鳳之前，都係先看portfolio, 要有机会開口先得。

一般讀EMl小學的學生，考取這些英文語言能力証書不會太難的。只是家長願意比錢＂買＂這些証書回來放入升中面試的個人簡歷中。
我有朋友是英中做行政，每年要揀選適合面試的學生。當見到學生是來自真正EMI小學，這些証書只是一份＂豬肉獎＂吧！所以前面有位讀Grade5小朋友考Ket或Pet,和我自己小四考獲Fce。都是一般的。
反過來說，如小朋友來自CMl小學，而在小四或五考到Ket或Pet，我那朋友會認為孩子的英語能力很高。而比機會面試，當然其他要求也要合適才可以。
我朋友說，在過去兩三年在過千份自行收生階段見到的簡歷中，在CMl就讀的學生，只見個數張FCE証書出現。這些小朋友都會有面試的機會。就算敎處回覆的這學生名次排序較後。
反而入讀EMl學生，就必須是敎處回覆的名次次序是前三或四成內，才有面試機會的。
