首先恭喜你孩子及同學們的優異成績。

你描述的情況都頗常見，每個學生及家庭有不同考量。我傾向在香港完成學士學位，以優異資歷，如果加上教授強力推薦，取得獎學金機會甚高。

他的同學可以再了解那幾間大學，在第二年及以後取得獎學金機會如何，如果往績是正面，又可以再考慮。

我昨天問一個香港一間大學的教授同樣的問題，他的建議是到美國升學較好，尤其在一線大學，那裏有最好的老師，有最top 的學生。讀pure science 最終是要讀研究院，在美國，你可以早接觸到一流的教授，讓他們了解你做研究的能力，才有機會在一流大學研究院做研究。

我以上的提議事實上已考慮該學生家庭的經濟因素。

如果我自己情況，我一早預備金錢上的安排，只看他的能力！

Fully agree with ANChan's comments.  The financial ability of the family and the kid's own ability to apply for overseas university are both important considerations.  In fact, it should be perfertly fine for the kid to stay in HK for his first degree.

我略講多少少，本科（學士）跟研究院有本質上的分別，很多大學排名是基於研究院而不是本科，以本科來比較，差異理應不大。省下4年費用已經可以講Phd，加上可以參加學生交換計劃，為出國作長遠準備。

我都見到幾個朋友的孩子，沒有理解父母的困難，堅持往海外升學，但香港有學位，遲些都不願妥協。
小兒都關心我們的負擔，就算Ok，他都以香港為先，除非十分吸引的大學及學科，我看他會在香港升學，將來再往海外讀研究院。我都老懷安慰！

所以我開比我仔條件都是最好的大學才會去美國，若果不是便留在香港讀完first degree才算。我節衣縮食都值 D. 但我看他壓力都很大，因他對自己都有要求！ANChan, 有機會都很想和你多交流，我兒子是你兒子學弟。

如果他要走科研pure science讀PhD而最終要當Lecturer的話，恐怕遲早都要過外國了，因為香港的大學在科研的funding實在少得可憐，香港現在pure science的PhD人才太多，新的PhD差不多可以話永遠等不到一個教席．

If I were in this situation, I would stay in HK to study the undergraduate programme. The saved money can be used for graduate degree in the US later.

During the 4 years of studies in HK, explore research opportunities with professors to work as a student research assistant. The more evidence on research ability, the easier to get in good graduate schools in the US. It would be very beneficial to do exchange. Good grades in top schools further enhances the chance to get in graduate school.

The reputations of top HK universities are good in the academic world
