Characteristics of IS kids

I'm struggling for IS and LS stream. Can anyone share with me what is the +ve and -ve impact on your kid for choosing IS? I have no question on English language skill. My key concern is more about discipline, Chinese core value and personality. If you don't mind, pls share your experience and the age of you kid. Thx.

I would like to elaborate on Chinese core value. We had a family discussion about how to carry on the Chinese core value to kids. We both studied in LS and there was no specific syllabus to teach us Chinese culture and values. Instead, our families provided the environment to nurture us the values. Especially our grandparents who took the vital roles by telling us the custom and culture in their childhood. Chinese literature like 三國演義，紅樓夢，唐詩，textbook 出師表，魯迅等 are those implicitly provided the resources to understand our ancestors' values.

My boy's self evaluation at the beginning of year 4 (7 yrs old):

1) happy
2) funny/humorous
3) book lover
4) sport lover

My boy was in LS kinder before and now in IS.  What i feel happy is he developed a highly confident, outspoken and socialised character in IS and it is very obvious.  comparing to when he was in LS, very shy, insecure though he was very obedient and disciplined.

我家孩子快七歲:

1.  愛看書
2.  超級鍾意同人玩 (又有時間玩), 好active
3.  對有興趣嘅事物會有興趣自己用唔同方法去表達同學多d, 如近期佢迷上mozart, 連mozart成家人出生日期都要知; 佢鍾意煮野食, 會嘗試自己設計食譜; 佢鍾意歷史, 聽得多睇得多, 最近睇緊一本教小朋友建立自己國家嘅書, 佢又自己list down設計自己國家. 我覺得幾creative.

What i got from yours sharing is very positive. I like IS the way of teaching. It seems develop the kid's way of thinking instead of just spoon feed them for examination. When the kid grown up, they need to find their own way and cannot rely on us to make all decision for them.

IS 小朋友比較天真，我笑我仔同佢D同學叫「迪士尼人」。至於中文唔中文，自己攪，唔好諗學校可以幫到。
LS放學要做約二個鐘頭功課+溫習，如果你小朋友用相同時間放喺中文，
你應該唔使擔心佢D中文。

我都有同感，我覺得IS小朋友普遍上比較天真，無IS的咁老積，可能佢哋低年班d的都係玩耍中學習較多，無偃苗助長。LS的相對較成熟，細細個就要面對激烈競爭。

係小一選校到有個TOPIC,話個仔有好多CERT, 好SMART, 咁入唔入到神級名校
(個人對那位家長沒有意見)
可想而知, 係KINDER時小朋友會用左好多時間去上堂(學術的)
玩既時間相對會少左
我來講, 我鍾意小朋友細個要玩盡佢, 唔應該俾佢地有壓力係考學校上
佢地得個幾歲, 點解唔俾佢地玩?
書有排讀, 玩又可以玩幾耐?
唔係話我女無學野,
但佢學既, 都係佢自己REQUEST的
好似BALLET, DRAWING.....
而我只打算係今個SUMMER開始要佢學埋SWIMMING
其他中/數...遲D先再講

在K1-K3的活動中
我女喜歡主動幫手, 主動答問題
但靜態的聽故事亦都專心
所以我暫時發現唔到有discipline既問題

好同意你講的
每個人的童年得一次
不過不是人人都可以負擔到IS
如果要應付LS，可能家長都有壓力
根本本地的教育制度本身就有問題

Btw, he is still a disciplined student in school.  
What i mean is IS provides them more freedom likes they can run around in school during play time while LS may not allow.

Instead of defining the characteristic of an IS kid ,let's think about the differences of teaching.  My kids go to IS school ,instead of telling them what to-do and what not,most of the time ,I need to provide pros and cons and guide them to make judgement call from there own. On the other hand ,when I teach local school students in Sunday school , they tend not to question on things and obey what you said. in a way,it is much easier to handle an local school kid over an IS kid. IS system gives you the freedom to teach and it is rely more on parents how to think and provide guidance.
