Yesterday, we attended the Information Day and found some interesting points in three admission talks - MBChB, LLB and QFRM/IFFA.
MBChB

1. Prof Wu clarified that don't use this year's admission grades as reference for coming JUPAS and non-JUPAS application. The median and lower quartile are much lower than the reasonable admission grades. The reason is so many spaces for limited talents, in normal years, 320 spaces for both CUHK & HKU. In double cohort, 840 spaces for both U......... This year will be 420 for both Us, so grades must be back to normal. Details refer to (2).

2. He further provided an indicators for our reference - For JUPAS, should be top 1.5% of HKDSE, say 6 x 5* = 36/42 as min (This year around 30/42). For MBChB, all subjects are equal weighting.

3. For non-JUPAS, PhD, or other degrees with 1st Hon, or other international qualification should be top 0.5% of the examination.

4. The split of JUPAS & non-JUPAS for MBChB will be 60% vs 40%, so 126 vs 84 students.

LLB


1. I didn't attend this one, my wife highlighted some points as 70 spaces for 2013, no particular quota for non-JUPAS as MBChB. In double cohort year, the admission grade is 38/45, the coming year will be up to 39/45. 80-85% LLB graduates will go for PCLL.

QF&RM

1. In double cohort, the admission grades of HKDSE are extremely higher than they expect, for IB, more or less the same as previous years 38/45. In 2013, the HKDSE admission grade will be lower than the first cohort. For IB, may be one grade up - 39/45.

For all programs, the IB students will be considered as advance standing, you may either have credit transfer to shorten the years from 4 to 3 or take up more exchange programs and or attachments to build up a better portfolio for future career advancement.

昨天我跟阿女都去咗中大 (好安慰, 係阿女叫我陪佢去, 想同我去喎, HAHA)

第一站是 翻譯系, 阿女好鍾意下,
再去新聞傳播, 就唔多喜歡,
之後阿女話想去法律系, 於是就去咗聽個 ADMISSION TALK, 應該是你太太聽的一樣了..
再跟法律系的師兄傾計...



我的問題來了 : 阿女竟有意思讀LAW....


我一直覺得自己個女 "唔夠尖" 讀 LAW 的,
入讀 LAW的, 英文一定超強, 分享的師兄就是從英國NON-JAPUS 回流的,
還有本地的國際學校學生, 感覺上阿女的英文不夠...
(其實怎去估算阿女 DSE 的英文會有什麼成績呢?)

而阿女其實是喜歡 "中文" 加 "英文" 的,  讀LAW 是以英文為主, 沒有什麼中文的,
我有沒理解錯 ?

阿女琴日要求去法律系, 主要原因是在翻譯系分享時, 知道有個 雙學位課程 (TRANSLATION + JD)
所以要去睇睇.....咁倒返轉, 入讀 LLB 的, 亦可再選擇加讀 TRANSLATION 的 DEGREE.....

以上的雙學位, 最快5年畢業 << 想問是否 5 年都可以拎政府資助學位的收費呢....


最後的問題是:
我建議阿女先入讀翻譯 (門檻低D之外, 一定是中英兼備麻) ,
入咗之後再打算讀唔讀LAW, 咁樣想法啱唔口啱呢?



阿女的資料:
現讀中五( 跑馬地女校) 修讀 中史 / 中國文學 / 英國文學...

有些不明。840是給A-Level 和DSE畢業生報讀的總數。但A-Level和DSE是分別招生，即420 (2 Us) for these two groups of students respectively. 同今年offer的學額分別不大。而且報章上和JUPAS web-site 內show 出來的admission grades 是以DSE成績計算，故此應存在雙學年學位多而拉低admission grades的情況。不過，我都同意今年熱門科的admission grades會提高，因第一屆大家都傾向保守穩陣。
未知我是否把你的意思理解錯了，如有的話，請賜教。

Yes and no.

For form 7 equivalent students got in 5 years program, so for 6 years programs only for HKDSE only (or majority). Year before (2011), 320 medic students have ~220-230 are JUPAS students. In 2012, ~400 medic students all from HKDSE. In my previous blogs and posts, the number of 5** and 5* similar to A & B, so both Us are forced to accept lower grades students..... say 30/42 (Low quartile) for 4C + 2.

In 2013, HKU around 25% and CUHK 40% as non-JUPAS and the net JUPAS students around 260, so may be back to 2011 admission grades, definitely not 2012.

中大醫學院明年收生會睇四科核心加三科選修，M1M2成績較高可與成績較低的選修拉平均分，即修七科加M數較佔優勢。
想問下為何hku nonjupas只佔25% 但cu佔40%?

Thanks for your additional info related to HKDSE.

CUHK - 40% for 2013 intake, stated by Prof Wu yesterday in the admission talk.
HKU - 25%, from HKU medical school source.....

Yes, for medical only and not other courses in general.
For QFRM, the HKDSE grades may be going down a bit. But IB may be 1 grade up.

LLB, more or less the same.

Pls take 25% as guideline for HKU non-JUPAS, I can't disclose too much.
Yes, 40% for all non-JUPAS in 2013, in the past only one third.

As far as I know, JD is not subsided and you have to pay the higher fee.

ALL = Graduates, undergraduates, IB, GCE-AL, AP...... other international or country specific qualifications, no specific breakdown for different qualifications.
This is medical school specific.

In that case, go for LLB first and then Translation, you can save the cost.

Double degree的第5年是沒有政府資助的。

yukico  哎呀, 點解我聽到的唔係40%, 而係1/3(non-jupas)+2/3ge(jupas)? 我聽的係3:30果一場

We attended the first session at 0900, Prof Wu is the Associate Dean.


If you have question, you better email to admission office to clarify.


Normally, our kids will apply both medical schools, no matter its 25% or 33% or 40% for non-JUPAS.

When we still had the EAS scheme, HKU usually admitted 70 to 80 EAS students to its medical program and would admit about 40 to 45 AL students. The figures were published by HKU annually. It follows that the balance of the place for the non JUPAS student is about 40. According to its tradition, 1/3 of the non-jupas places will go to the degree holder and 2/3 will go to post-secondary school applicants. If it maintains this ratio, about 50 to 60 places go to non-Jupas applicants this year.
