Interesting question.

A similar question would be ... what kind of kid (in terms of character) is suitable for studying abroad?

Given that international schools in Hongkong are really mimicking schools abroad, it is unusual that no one seems to ask the second question {:1_1:}

Or put it this way, would international school normally has children that are outgoing, proactive, talkative etc... ?

Well, mine is outgoing but in a way she is shy sometimes.  She is very talkative though.  I do see a few very quiet ones but yet they have their own way of thinking and their own way of sorting things out.

I would think these qualities are the RESULTS of an international school education rather than the prerequisites {:1_1:}

The philosophy of school is important. Having said that, I also want my child to fit in the atmosphere in order for her to have a happy life. For example, she is not physically active and tend to observe others when she faces new things or activities. She would rather try when she is sure about what is happening and be sure that she is capable to do the task. As international school normally ask children to explore, I am thinking whether she can fit in such environment.

I do think the answer is yes.
I see some IS admitting kids with these characters even they are not very smart "academically". While I also see other IS admitting those smart but a little bit quiet. Only a little bit, otherwise I may say the chance of getting in is really little.

Each IS like admitting their own "traits" of children.  It is v hard to compare what the are looking for in general.  Personal experiences tell me that even tradition ESF schools look for things that are different from ESF PIS like RC!

Thanks for your sharing. I also tend to believe that my child can be"trained" to be more outspoken and confident if she join an international school based on their environment and way of teaching. However my husband thinks that given her personality, she would not enjoy her days being "forces" to take initiative etc

All kinds of characteristic can be found in a school, so I don't think there is one particular personality fits international school.  Any kids should be able to grow and develop within a good school.  I see very active kids studying at local schools and some very quiet ones at international schools.  For me, I prefer IS because I don't want to spend weekends studying at home for weekly tests.... I don't want to sit down for hours daily to do homework, so I decided to put my kid in IS.
