Hi experienced parents!

I ordered from bookdepository on 2 Aug, today the status is still "processing". The book page said "usually dispatched within 48 hours" so it should not be because the book is unavailable.

Is this normal? Last time I ordered, the status was updated to "shipped on xxx" 3 days later. Do they sometimes forget to update the status? or do I need to remind them?

It's not normal, but once I encountered the same situation and I asked my order status via help and the customer service said they encountered some problem with the publisher and therefore resulting to the delay, but the book was despatched subsequently.  So you might want to check with them.

Thanks Laputa! Just checked again and it's shipped finally!
It's the 9th book of "How to train your dragon", this version comes with collector cards. Trying to attract my boy, he's now collecting the Beast Quest cards!

屋企無位喇，兩個細路又成日唔捨得啲舊書，我依家盡量捉埋佢地睇 Kindle 版，唔駛煩！

what version and how much is your kindle?  I want to buy one, but I don't know if kindle support chinese or not and I really would like to have a full collection of 金庸.  also, it seems the book price for kindle version is not as cheap as hard copy version.  Can you share more about this?

Hi Laputa!
Mine was called Kindle 3 Wi-Fi, costed ~$1200 including postage. I'm afraid it's no longer available. The nearest one is now called Kindle Keyboard but comes with 3G + Wi-Fi support.

There are lighter and cheaper versions now. The Kindle one is lightest and cheapest but has no audio and has only 2G memory. My experience is that if you put ~100 books on the kindle, it takes a loooooooger time to load. I'm not sure if 2G means it will become slow with 50 books or not. Or if you would like to use the text-to-speech function or listen to audio books then you may also not want this one.

Having said that, if one day, my kids are fighting over our kindle, I guess I will buy the "Kindle". Weight is my biggest concern!

Chinese books is not a problem! I'm asking my kids to read Eng/Chi books alternately. As a role model, I am doing that too, and on Kindle! You can get a complete set of 金庸 from 好讀 website. Needs to do some conversion on the PC but they are free! It certainly feels good to have a set of 金庸 + Percy Jackson + Harry Potter + some Beast Quests + My Weird School + Candy Fairies ... in your bag, on the beach & in Singapore!

As for prices, are you a big supporter of royalty?

How about phonics readers? These are usually shorter. I remember you want series of books that can be booked from the library?

and how about asking your home helper to choose herself and borrow 18 picture books for your girl every week? I guess your girl will be interested in at least a few of these by random books?

Has your girl read Usborne's First Experiences? Fairy Tales? Farmyard Tales? they are really sweet. I remember seeing them in library in separate thin books but you may also want to own a collection:

My gal will be happy to know one more fan of Blyton's books. So far, Famous Five series is her most favourite books she has read. Adverture series of Blyton and Harry Potter come second and third. Among Blyton's books, she also likes Mystery series, Malory Towers, Naughtiest Girls, Wishing Chair......

Fantastic 7?? No idea as my gal has yet to read this. She said it was not necessary to read Famous Five in sequence but she did so as she thought it was better to do this.

Our Famous Five box set was bought from Amazon.uk. My hubby's friend then brought it back to HK. I once saw a booth in HK book fair selling the box set but the price is not comparable to that of Amazon.
