My gal started Roald Dahl's books with "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". We let her watch the VCD first and then I read three chapters to her to arouse her interest. It works.

唔好同人比. 小朋友個個唔同, 早D 同遲D冇MUD大分別, 最緊要係佢要自己愛上看書, 咁先至做到READ TO LEARN.

我仔三歲半，好鐘意故事書。伴讀的話，佢而家睇緊magic tree house. 自己讀的話就只係好簡單每頁兩三句果D storybooks，所以中間嘅difference好大。好想請教大家點樣拉近個difference 直到可以完全自己獨立閱讀。

三歲半，我地應該係伴讀緊 picture books 同 D stage 1 嘅簡單故事。Magic Tree House 留番佢大啲自己睇好喎，你見好多媽媽都成日頭痕搵咩書嚟餵啲書蟲。同埋，如果你伴讀嘅精彩過佢自己讀嘅，佢邊有動力去自己讀？

同意幾多歲讀到唔重要，只要方向正確，最終都係會讀到。學 Phonics 加大量閱讀啦，有用㗎！

我都覺得3.5伴讀MAGIC TREE HOUSE早左D, 不如用PICTURE BOOK鞏固一下對書本嘅興趣.

因我仔係mixed，daddy 係美國人，所以佢英文理解力ok的，stage 1 嘅書對佢嚟講太簡單，已滿足唔到佢。有D picture books 仲有睇，佢都仲好鐘意。至於magic tree house，因佢理解到亦好鐘意個故事。
學校有教phonics，但而家只係教到letter sounds，所以想知點樣加快佢獨立閱讀嘅步伐。

the lonely planet books are pre=order, so not sure.  I have the Not for Parent Travel book, (2 page per countries), my 5 year old love it.  The NY, London and Paris are more for my elder one.  You can borrow from the library too.

Story of invention is really good.
Is Quest of Gods related to Greek myths?  After your referral of the Greek Myth book, my daughter read it 3 times already.  In the bookfair she found a series called Goddess Girls featuring Mount Olympus Academy, and bought one of it for a try. . . .

I am thinking when will be a good time to lure her to read Percy Jackson :>

Hi Laputa!

Thr Quests books are quite boyish, nothing to do with myths. A punch here, a stab there and monsters after monters. Just a look at the cover scares my girl away! ;p
Has your girl read How to Train Your Dragon? I think they are quite nice, leaves the reader something to think about afterwards.  Percy Jackson... seems so far away for us... luckily I have the Kindle version, pages won't be falling off with the long wait!

其實你不用急於令他獨自閱讀，你陪他一起，他很享受這種感覺，我見過有些小朋友5／6歲父母放手，兩三年後便很少自己閱讀。可以去lib借Jim Trelease - Read Aloud Handbook, 作者仍然為十幾歲兒子 read aloud，可見與兒子伴讀十分重要!
