Piano Exam Planning?

My daughter have already passed Grade 2 Exam. Her teacher advise her to attend Grade 3 next year.
But I want to attend Grade 5 few years later.
Please advise. :

My daughter also just passed in Grade 2.  Her piano teacher advised her to attend the Grade 4 exam in 2006.

My teacher said that Grade 5 must be attend.
Someone choose Grade 2,3,5 & some choose Grade 2,4,5. But I only want to choose Grade 2,5.
Is it OK?

我個女上月都考咗Gr 2, 上星期老師問我准唔准备出年考Gr 3, 我就一ロ拒絕咗. 因唔想為咗個試花太多時間. 但係又好唔明, 其實d老師都明知如果學生准备考試, 佢會教少好多歌, 學生亦會彈少好多歌, 而考咗Gr 2點解仲叫學生考Gr 3呢? 站在老師的立場, 佢哋又係點諗?

My teacher told me. If you don't attend Grade 3, the child will be lazy to play piano. Since no pressure & no target to study. Just for fun.

考試真係好花時間, 苦不是為了要cert搵學校, 真係唔考好過.  要壓力, 比賽就可以啦!

好多謝你咁詳盡的回履 . 听你咁講, 我估我女個老師都係順口問下我, 因我問佢多唔多學生咁考時, 佢話都有, 當我話唔考Gr 3時, 佢就話練多d歌先. 至於學費, 間琴行係照學生彈緊書的級數黎收費, 唔知其他琴行係唔係咁.
我再想請教你, 如果考2級, 唔考3, 4級, 等練到5級時再考, 咁樣安排好處係唔洗花好多時間係個試到, 但會有乜嘢唔好處呢?
除咗校際, 仲有乜嘢比賽係适合小朋友參加? 家長可從什麼途徑知道?

I have same queston with Candyli. What disadvantage directly to attend Grade 5. Please advise. Thanks. And I want to know what qualification of you about piano Exam.

Dear Ming2,

My daughter now is using "Step by step book 3" ,   "M.A, grade two" and John thomson grade one. Would you tell me . Is her level is G1.  Before changing these books , she has been learning piano for one year. 進展是否正常 呢?

Many adult learners take G5 direct but kids and their parent are usually the reasons for taking exam each year.

Like other said some parents like to get G8 very soon, they push their kids to take exam law.  More exams you take the more experience you have, usually the better you will do during exams.

Think back, why take exams at all?  what's the reasons for such exam.  When you know have your answer then you know why or why not take G5 directly la!  May be for school, may be to recognized by international standard.

In my humble opinion, ABRSM are exams are not comprehensive enough as a test for musicianship anyway.

By the way, I am just a father interested to use Piano as a tool for my son to learn music.  I don't know piano myself but I know a lot of people who do.  So I just share what I heard and what I know la!
