Could you let me know some facts about how DBSPD is far far better than LS?
I have to admit, both are top-tier schools and dream schools for most parents. I think I feel no regret at all if my son is admitted by either LS or DBSPD. If I am such a lucky papa that my son gets both 2 offers, I may consider LS more based on the facts I quoted. Maybe some aspects I am overlooking so that you think my choice is not a rational one.
Want to say something about my #2, about the dpsdp becomes more 'prestiguous'. It is a rather neutral statement as some may like the school is more 'prestiguous' while some may not.
Back to the years without DSS and through-train policy, outstanding academic primary students within their districts can be admitted to DBS. So you can see students from different social classes, both poor and rich.
Nowadays, the competition starts when the students are just tiny babies (2-3 years old). Over 2600 smart kids with all-rounds trainings, from academic to sport, from music to art, compete with the limited 150 seats for dpspd. Kids are prepared for this admission 'games' for 2~3 years, getting the academic certificates, getting some sport awards, learning music instruments, getting some art awards etc... You can imagine it is not the 'game' for those 'relatively' poor families as all these ECAs cost a lot . You can argue the admission criterias are not based on those certificates and awards, but I believe that those well-trained kids are more advantageous than those normal kids in this selection process. Who can really know the real potential of a child at just the age of 5 or 6?
My gut feeling is nowadays students admitted to DBS/DBSPD are richer than those old boys, those at the years without DSS and through-train policy. I think this trend is also applied to all top-tier DSS schools.
I am not an anti-DBS parent. I love DBS too and also will apply DBSPD for my son, though i believe the chance is really low. I will treat this as a 'lucky-draw' to see if my son can be lucky enough. Ironically, i guess my son's chance in getting LS admission is riskier and lower than DBSPD !!!
