Thx for your sharing.  And congratualtions !

Would you mind enlightening me as to how to help guide my girl to study hard and play hard at HYPS?  How to stay in the top 20%? Did your daughter come from HYK?  Did she stay in the tope 20% from P.1 to P.6?  Do you plan for your child to apply to other DSS like DGS/GHS?

My daugther came from HY kinder and she was selected to HYPS.
She kept top 20% from P1 - P6.
She prefers to stay at HYS and doesn't apply any other schools.
Pay attention in class and do homework carefully are important !!
How many ECA depends on each girl development !!

My girl has been accepted by APSKT and got a HYPS space.  She is from Creative Kinder...a happy KG.  I kind of worry about her academic side but she is hardworking, cheerful  and loves music.  She is sometimes careless.  But she loves to read, sing and do drama.

Does HYS expect HYPS' students to have attained Grade 8 for musical instrument by P.6?  For my child, there is no guarantee of F.1 space and we have to compete with outsiders for HYS space.

If your daugther is a hardworking student,it is good enough.
HYS never expects any students having grade 8 piano in P6.
My daugther is now grade 5 only.
Trust your daugther and let it be !!

Does your daughter learn other instruments as well?  Does she join school orchestra/choir/band and sports?   
She is really smart as she can stay in the top 20% in all 6 years.

She is learning flute as well which was arranged by school when she was in P1.She is grade 5 now.
She is the member of orchestra/choir/band and sports.
Try to keep your daugther to bed around 9:30pm and let her enjoy reading in the room
around half hour everyday.

If your girl have to compete with outsider for a seat in F1 six year later, I think it's definitely an advantage to have Grade 8 or above in musical instrument (other than piano cos' they don't count this).

Besides academic, HYS will take those girls with music & sports talent. My girl & some of her classmate took Grade 8 exam in P5. So as I know, quite a lot of P6 girls in HYPS already got Grade 8 (some will take LTCL this year).

Are drama, speech and singing 'useful' pursuts as well?  My 5 yr old is strong in singing, drama, English, Putonghua and speech.

Of course, those ECA will be a help in getting a seat, not only in HYS but also other top schools. HYPS have many ECA for you to choose, I'm sure girls could explore their interests here. If your girl doesn't like sports or joining the orchestra, she might join the choir (HYS's choir got many awards in local & oversea competitions). And if she have the chance to join the school debate team in P4/5, don't miss this. Many top school take this into consideration. (I'm regret that my girl gave up the chance cos' she didn't like debate =.= ) HYS's Debate Team is very outstanding. It's really an asset for her future.
