Dear all,
Perhaps I can share my experience as my elder son studied in SWCK and is now with KCIS. As Christians, both my hubby and I loved SWCK so much. My boy learnt a great deal of biblical values, songs and stories during the time when he was studying in SWCK. Due to the strong religious background of the school, kids are taught to learn to love each other. They pray everyday. Children are also trained to be very independent in taking care of themselves. As for language, I can see major improvements in spoken English in a lot of kids since they joined SWCK. Since my son was quite advance in his verbal English, he improved even more after joining the school.
We got an offer from KCIS shortly before we knew the new development re. ICA. I must say we chose KCIS in the end out of practical considerations that there is a lot of uncertainty about secondary education for ICA as the plan so far is primary. We hate to say but we really feel a bit insecured if we were to worry about how best to plan for our son's secondary education a few years down the road.
I would say we are so far happy with KCIS. My son likes the school very much. Children are also expected to be very independent in taking care of themselves. Big improvements in verbal English, in my son's case, are less evident. But this may be because my son has well passed the stage when we can see major improvements. The half-an-hour Mandarin time daily also works well on my son too. What he used to do is that he could name objects in Mandarin. After going to KCIS, I can observe that he feels more comfortable to talk in Mandarin in a sentence from time to time. In short, we are so far happy with the school. But we will also be letting our son to attend the assessment tests for other international schools this year as most of them admits from aged 4+ (i.e. next Sept). Interview processes will start in Jan/Feb next year. Since competition is keen these days, we just see all these interviews as opportunities for more exposure for our son.
For crystalpui, I can understand how you feel, and this is exactly how I'm feeling and struggling (still). Religiously, we are prepared to do more ourselves (since our son couldn't go to a Christian school). We keep praying that God will guide our way and open the door for an international school which is most suitable for our son. |
