Kindergarten class (= K1 under HK system) : 4 classes
Reception class (= K2 under HK system): 4 classes
P1 (= K3 under HK system) : 3 classes

KCIS is a through-train school. There will be no other entrance exams after you gain admission.

The reason for 4 reception classes becoming 3 P1 classes is the fact that most of those leaving reception class will join back to the local education system, targeting local schools. However, the situation will change as KCS bans dual enrolment KCS-KCIS.

I heard/knew people leaving KCIS primary joined/will join DBS, Cdnis, ESF.

The total number of student in both 4 Reception classes and 3 P1 classes is around 80.  School places remain unchanged even some students would escape after completion of Reception.  What school does is to fill up with new student if place is available rather than reduce 1 class.
In terms of class regrouping (4 R --> 3 P1), I think school arranges it because:
1) school has considered that pre-schoolers can receive better care and easily get used to new environment in smaller class.  So, the class size of KG and Reception is around 20.
2) it aims to provide full-day session for P1 – P6 within limited resources.  The class size is around 26.

I don't think KCIS's displicine level is low (based on my experience). But, it is very subjective and depends very much on one's perspective. A KCIS parent (foreigner) told me that KCIS displicine level is high. Of course, the displicine level also varies depending on the tolerance of the class teachers. I think the KCIS displicine level is much better than some reputable international schools given that Kiangsu Chekiang Primary has well-known for being highly displicine (especially in the old days...)

Yes, sometimes places come up in the middle of the year. It happens more often in international schools as the parents may need to re-allocate to other countries.

LITTEHO

THANKS SO MUCH
crystalpui,

You just indicate that you wish to queue up for AM class when you pay the deposit lah.  My son is currently with KCIS KG pm class.  We did indicate our wish to queue for AM class, but was told that there were some 3X students ahead of my son.  In other words, it means that almost all enrolled before us indicated the same.

If my son is staying at KCIS in the coming year, there might be a chance that he may be offered an AM class seat.  But it all depends on whether those currently studying in AM classes will leave KCIS.

OH, you're right!  You remind me!  It seems that there was a one-week term break in Oct/Nov.  But the timing of KCIS' term break is a little bit different from other international schools.  What I recall is it's term break was a few days later than others'.

I didn't follow closely discussion here.  You are Christian family, right?  Seems that last time, you mentioned you may let your daughter to stay with SWCK.  So, you decided to let her switch to KCIS?

I don't remember exactly, but Oct does not have 2weeks holiday. KCIS does not really follow school breaks for other IS. The major school breaks are Christmas, Chinese Lunar New Year and Easter. KCIS starts academic year in September versus August for many IS.

I met my son's class and Chinese teachers today, confirming that students will be stream into two classes/levels of different Mandarin ability. There will be two pieces of Chinese homeworks per week in P1.

I strugged too when I switched my son from SWCK to KCIS.  We are Christian family too and we love SWCK so much.  We decided to let our son switch to KCIS as we are concerned about the uncertainty re. secondary school for ICA.  For certain that the school fee for ICA primary would sooner or later exceed $100 000 a year.  But that's quite inevitable given its need to fund the renovation of premises and continous school (in terms of both hardware and software development).  The reason for the lower school fee for KCIS (and no debenture) is also exactly because it is sharing campus with KCS.  While this is no doubt a good thing for parents in terms of financial, the downside with this is that you will find arrangements (e.g. use of facilities, school bus arrangements, etc.) for KCIS somewhat "secondary" to KCS mainstream.  And to be very frank, this is something that is quite dissatisfying from time to time from KCIS parents' perspective.  Having said that, I fully understand that this is kind of a trade-off.

Littleho

Is your kid  now in KG or Reception?  Mine is in KG.  My parents' session has been scheduled for tomorrow.

I didn't know at all that there will be two abilty groups for Mandarin starting from P1.  That's definitely a very useful piece of information!
