I can't guarantee my thoughts are all up to dates, may provide some directions for your kid.
You need to consider the following factors:
1. Language proficiency of the kid and you as parents - English;
2. Your Maths standard - High school, graduates, major in science, engineering or maths;
3. Your time commitment;
4. Your expectations;
5. Financial resources;
6. Local acceptance of the program(s), secondary school and university;
7. Overseas exposures;
8. Interaction with smart kids; and
9. Classified as maths gifted by taking recognised tests
11 years back, I considered the following options:
A. Using MENSA exercise book from USA to challenge him - it's fun, but I need time to go through with him, very cost effective, no certificate, no interactions....
B. Using 2+ advance text books and or workbook to guide him through the progress....
C. Take EPGY (Stanford) or CTY (John Hopkins) on-line Maths program(s) - recognised internationally, more expensive cf local program like MO
D. Take Maths program from local universities which targeted gifted kids, like CUHK, HKUST...... recongised locally, cost effective
E. Take International Gifted Maths Exam, like World Class Arena or Talent Search of EPGY etc. which provide another route for overseas summer programs .... recognised internationally
F. Overseas Gifted Summer Programs - EPGY Summer School, Imperial College summer programs.... expensive, but I will say value for money if the kid and you know where to go.... good cultural mix and exposure, excellent credit for university admission
G. Joint Gifted Summer Programs - like the joint program between HKUST and John Hopkins every summer in HK; CUHK,BU and HKPU also provide gifted programs in summer, some programs related to Maths; good interactions with smart kids....reciognised by the university provided that program...
H. Maths Olympaid also another option, recognised locally and not sure internationally, for medalists may be recognised (KHUST recognised Gold medalists and offer Entrance Scholarship)
I. PLK Primary School Maths Competition, through the competition,they shortlisted students for training and enrolled into HK teams for International maths competition....
*** Some parents will put Kumon as gifted program, I will classify it as drilling exercises for mediocre students. Tell me, which local university recognised it. ***
Other more knowledgeable parents add on more info......
