In my case, i will send my kid to States for further education, that's why i send her to IS. I believe quite a lot of IS parents have same plan like me.

me too! i plan to send her back to toronto when she is high school!  plus i dislike duck feeding education system which more or less discourage learning incentive!

我小朋友做功課太慢,日日大慨要做到9:00才完成大慨10樣家課,然後再去溫書,無晒成親子時間。我自知小朋友潛質差,無謂要他再在海中半浮半沉,影響他學習興趣。

First... I know I don't know even chinese to keep up with my children's homework and I cannot count on my parents and my husband to give me a helping hand.
Second, my son enjoys hands-on and learn to play.  The modality of teaching is what is important to him.  Hence... even when I am choosing an international school for him, I am also looking at the modality and delivery of information, more than just international school as a general group.  Some schools that require so-called discipline in the classroom is clearly not our cup of tea.

2)      在外國住過，變得好難接受香港學校的設備及時間表
 
我已有心儀的外國大學，講真香港爭band 1都是為入大學，外國入大學是好普遍,  反以冇中學生想讀 (除香港人多的城市),  下一代讀大學是必然，沒甚麼值得慶幸。

1. 幾年前我公司請人，我負責 in，請左個 HKU畢業的，中學會考、A level etc成績中規中舉，點知......完全唔掂，英文差到離普，基本gramar都唔得，要改佢的野難過自己從新寫過，我可以肯定如果佢同我一齊考我果屆會考，佢冇可能合格，系果一刻我好驚第時結婚生仔之後個仔點算.........
2. 點解香港咁多明星補習社，如果佢地只系識足考試題目而令道學生考試有好成績，即代表考試制度完全失敗，如果佢地真系咁堅真材實料教到班學生好醒，咁堆正規學校究竟系度做乜?即代表教育制度完全失敗。
3. 我唔鍾意填鴨式教育及要靠背書的考試
4. 我唔想我的小朋友要學曬世上所以樂器兵器，佢自己鍾意玩邊樣 sports or music留比佢自己揀
5. 我唔想佢周圍問人羅信羅漿杯獎狀儲profile
6. 我唔想佢冇曬時間 enjoy his/her childhood or 冇曬親子時間
7. 性格方面我希望我的小朋友可以outgoing d 鬼 d.

Agreed to your comment.  That's why I sent my boy to IS and never thought of the LS path.

唔好話英文啦、早幾日個香港大学学生会代表出来講野、都懶音多多、点做代表呀。　　母語都講不正、難望第２、第３語言講得好。　香港的本地教育簡直徹徹底底的失敗。　　当然我地作為父母的也要注意、只顧将所有野尽早譲小朋友学晒、就自我催眠話宜家D小朋友聡明、其実只是早学D野、其他就完全心智不成熟。

过去已成过去, 唔好再悔恨! 阿仔好本事, 叻过不少读完master 都无工做的大学生.  父母半夜发梦都应该忍不住笑出声.

无念大学, 读书唔叻, 有读写困难也不是世界末日.  人生一定有出路.

I have been thinking between IS and local schools for my son too recently.
Since my husband is an old boy of a famous band 1 govt aided local school on kowloon side, my son has very high points and everyone says he is almot 95% able to get into this band 1 primary school via the lucky draw by EDB.
It's obvious that my son should follow his dad's route.  But I'm not sure if this is the correct way.  As most of the parents in this thread mentioned, the HK education system has so much deficiency that kids being raised under such handicapped educational system are not able to develop their abilities and talents but being discouraged and tortured  with complete loss of confidence, innovation and initiatives.  
I wonder how I should choose between the two.  Instead of IS, any other options available?  is DSS a mid-way between IS or local school that I may consider?  Financial factor is however another consideraton that we have to face eventually.

It really depends on your kid's personality, what learning mode is acceptable to him and of course what is affordable to the family. There are many good schools in HK and don't give yourself too much pressure by setting your eyes on one or two schools.
Here is an article originally from a local newspaper HKET on Aug 26. This COO graduated from a famous local school with 6A in HKCEE. But he does not sound like he enjoyed  school. However, not all kids would compare himself to others this much. So, how your family educates your child to handle competition is also important.

This issue also give me a headache recently. At first when we decided to let my son go to Boxhill, we are determined to let him go for the IS stream. However, as the course fee of IS is getting higher and higher and some even require (non-refundable) debenture, it really scares me off...
But what made me make such a decision at day 1 is that we don't want our son to grow up in the HK education system, with many assignments that occupy his time... really want him to be raised in a more flexible learning environment to train his analytical and critical thinking skills.
Of course we also think about letting him to study abroad, but I haven't made up my mind which country is good...

Are you ever worried that they won't learn any Chinese?
