明天玫瑰崗open day 1400-1700 仲有真光中學小學部open day 1430-1630,不過真光好始係要有邀請(幼稚園).因為佢網頁唔見有post!大家有時間興趣逛逛

如果本身幼稚園有小學部 係第一階段係咪最好揀番佢呢? (但我地本身咩分都無, 只得適齡果個分)

as I see in other threads, that parents asking where to take interview photos.

Do you think it is worth the money and time? Some (suggested in "Shatin") charges really high (like $800 !!!!!!) for photos. Some are more reasonable, but still expensive ($300).

Does interview photos really make a difference?
Or, does it just make the parents feel better?

I wonder if parents have ascertained whether those taking photos specially for P1 applications have a higher likelihood of being accepted. :)

In my case, I just used photos taken by the kindergarten with uniform, and had 4 offers out of 9 schools applied.  It may still be considered not satisfactory enough by some parents.

我唔申請直資同私校，專注資助學校，睇下有無人係同一個網吖﹗

其實我也不是特別心儀直資/私校
只是我位於71校網，網內沒有什麼心儀的學校，怕第一階段派不到理想學校，所以買個保險。

另一方面是，我不太趨向兒子繼續讀國際學校。

可以分享一下國際學校有甚麼不好，令你不想兒子繼續讀？

其實國際學校不是不好，只是不太適合小兒。

小兒個性比較內向、做事喜歡有規有距，是個說一不二的死硬派。他熱愛中國文化，除了上課和同學、老師溝通外，說中文還要比英文多。他認為中文的發音和文字比較有趣。

國際學校自由度大，講究發揮和創意，小兒讀得頗辛苦，自覺沒有成就感。反觀後來我為他定訂作息時間表，每天按照要求自發性學習，進步比之前快，自信心也就提高了，現在甚至要求我讓他多作練習。

我想活動教學也好、傳統教學也好、國際學校也好，都沒有什麼絕對的好與壞，只有是否適合孩子的學校。

Interesting.  You really know your son well.  I think this is the most important element in choosing the school.  Choose a right school is most important for the children development and not the famous school.  I would agree that some children perform better with direction and guideline given as they can follow and judge if they have perform up to the standard.

I am just trying my best to give what I can give to my son, as if all other parents do.
But I am now getting frustrated. I have difficulties in making my son's portfolio. He doesn't have any awards or significant certificates. What he got is a fine performance assessment from his kindergartens only. Plus, I have no idea how to persuade YW that my son suits the school.

Don't be frustrated, not all the kids get a handful of certificates.  I think portfolio is to show your kid's strength on learnings & hobbies, plus how the parents develop their children.  Most parents share, no. of cert does not make a big differences.:loveliness:

Unless the certificates are very extraordinary, they only serve to prove that parents have tried to explore and promote your son's interests and to build his interest and it doesn't matter too much what the results are.  

If you know YW well enough (homework time!), combined with the knowledge about your son, you should be able to explain why YW is suitable for your son.  Have you viewed some of the videos of Principal Lam in YW's web site?  If you listen carefully, you will realise what she expects of parents and the children.
