I like KCIS!!

My son was lucky to be accepted in the Reception Class for the coming academic year. It is because almost all students KCIS Kindergarten Class (4 classes) will continue to stay with KCIS for 2011/2012 Reception Class. In the recent interview for Reception Class, there were 3X candidates. Originally, there are four spaces available. The school create eight more spaces due to very strong demand. I understand that about 50 candidates were interviewed for their P1, and KCIS accepted only 10 of them. Competition for spaces in KCIS has intensified

Definitely QBS  Other than good mandarin, academically KCIS is not strong. A lot of students would transfer to ESF and other IS during the primary years, but they have to wait for years because of the long wait list.

Do you know if the Reception class in KCIS needs to interview for promoting to Primary one?

I guess students in Reception Class should automatically be promoted to P1. There are four classes of Reception Class and three classes of P1. But, some students in Reception Class will continue/go to study in the local/mainstream system (i.e. K3). Note that some of students in KCIS also study in KCS local stream. I think some students may go to other international schools. But, less so in this year. There was no interview for Reception Class last year. But, there is group interview, starting this year. I hope it helps.

I will choose KCIS. From what I heard, KCIS's teachers are more caring and they would not throw all the problems to parents like ESF. Plus mandarin is so important when they step into the society, KCIS could provide a much stronger mandarin environment for them.

I heard that there was a case where a student from a very well-known international school with strong Chinese curriculum applied for an elite local school in Hong Kong (St...). The student was assessed by the elite local school. The school principal praised his strong English, but did not admit him due to his poor Chinese. That student then attended KCIS for a while and was subsequently accepted by that elite local school. It shows how strong/vigorous the Chinese program for KCIS.

Note that it may be an individual case.

I will not disclose the name of international school as it will create more quarrels in this forum, attracting negative comments from parents of this international school.

I also heard some good and bad comments on ESF and KCIS. I hope it helps some parents who are considering KCIS.

By the way, I did not get an offer from ESF, because I did not apply.

:)

hi Jackeylwfd,
