18 months baby girl still cannot speak

My baby girl has just reached 18 months but still cannot speak simple single words except making the sounds seem like"Dad Dad", "姐姐" and "mum mum" etc.  I have arranged her to receive a speech assessment in a private centre today.  ST commented that my daughter was quite weak in imitating sound and her ability to understand was somehow not very strong.  Shall I let my daugther start speech therapy immediately or have second opinions from another ST (the present ST seems to be not very nice but it is just my first impression)? Any good ST recommended?

Thanks for your reply. Can you give me some more details about this Global Assessment (e.g. who will conduct the assessement? what's its purpose and how expensive etc?)

Global assessment is a comprehensive assessment on the development of a child. It helps you to find out what exactly causes speech delay, whether it is due to weak oral muscles, mental development delay, autism or other pyschological or environmental factors. This assessment is recommended by a paediatrician, but is quite expensive (around $5,000 and there is a fairly long queue).  

I think you should talk to your paediatrician and see what he recommends. 18 months being able to say single words is not too bad, but if you are in doubt, it is worth to have a thorough check-up than to miss the golden opportunity of early education/rectification.
