Future Tense 一問

想請問係乜野情形下係用shall, will 同is going to 呢? 因為佢哋全部都係future tense,但都吾知點樣用,有冇啲key words 係可以知道幾時用邊個?

請指教!

be going to
1) Intention or decision already made to do or not to do something.
eg: We are going to move to a new neighbourhood next month.

2) Plans or arrangements for the near future that are made prior to the time of speaking
eg: We are going to visit the zoo on Sunday.

3) Prediction of an outcome based on current situation.
eg: Look at the overcast sky. It is going to rain hard.

will/be going to [interchangeable ]
1) predictions about the future
eg: He thinks his son's team "will"/"is going to" win the match.

2) indicate future situations or actions
eg:  My son "will"/"is going to" be ten next month.

3) absolutely sure about something
eg: I "will"/"am going to" be at the meeting tomorrow.

will [interchangeable with "shall"]
1) When a decision or plan is made for the distant future, will is usually used.
eg: She will get married in two years.

2) when the futurity depends on a condition of circumstance
eg: If I see him, I will give hime your message.

shall (Polite shall, not interchangeable with "will")
eg: Shall we dance?

The use of the word "shall" means a person will do something in the future, additionally he has an obligation to do it.  For example, he shall issue a suspension order in case....  [He has no choice in that case].

Just know that they are used in future tense is enough.

A primary student may not need to know their differences.

所謂 future 只是指『將會』…

shall - 有計劃地將會

Shall we dance?  準備好同妳跳舞？
Will we dance? XXX 希望請妳跳舞？

will - 希望將會

"Shall we dance" is a special case. Normally will/shall is interchangable. (in very format english espceially in legal document, 'shall has anothe rmeaning as cherubic mentioned but a primary student may not need to kow about it)

I don't think 'shall' means "有計劃地將會" and 'will' means "希望將會"

其實simple future不複雜，簡單地只需分清兩點：

第一點，按代詞或主語決定用shall/will。

一般情況下，只需記著shall只用於I和we，其他用will,

a. I shall/will go.

b. You/He/She/It/They/Mr. Wong/The Teacher will go, etc.

第二點，按事情是否有計劃發生或事前是否已知道而決定用will/shall或be + going to。

a. will/shall都表示決心和含有說話時才決定或知道的意思，即沒預先安排的事情用will/shall。

b. be + going to含有說話前已經安排了，即事前已經計劃好或很明確知道某事情必定會發生便用be + going to。

當我在說話的時候才決定聖誕節要去日本時，便說：
"I shall/will go to Japan on Christmas."
然後晚上我再把已經決定了或計劃好的事情告訴家人，便說：
"I am going to Japan on Christmas."

be + going to也用於現在很明確知道某事情必定會發生:

"Look at the sky! It's going to rain."
"Oh dear! It's 9 o'clock and I'm not ready. I'm going to be late."

I agreed.  I am afriad to say there is not much difference in meaning between shall and will nowadays.

Both "shall and will" don't mean any plans or arrangements but "be + going to" does.

其實我好懶惰走去拿書，不過都搵到 shall / will 、在 Grammar Practice 5B of Primary Longman Express 裹面的解釋是:

Will is more common in everyday speech.
Shall can also be used to make suggestions and offers.

因為 Shall 有 suggestions 的意思，所以 'Shall we dance?' 我 suggest 我們一起跳舞？

如果 'Will we dance?' 我們可否一起跳舞?

用 will 係準備會做乜乜或去邊度. 但未必會做.
用 is going to 係會做這件事的成數好高好高的時間就會用.
係阿仔的英文老師教.
