Definitely you can't avoid the new school to get in touch with the existing school to get reference about the student.
Actually I just changed school for my son this Sept. I have to do the application starting from last Oct, then exam/interview in last Nov. The Housemaster was very kind, he even helped us to arrange transport for my son.
If you want to change school for your child, you better hurry up as most elite schools already closed application.
Didn't your son only just start school this Sept?
Why do you want him to change school so soon?

My son just wants to study in a less expensive boarding school and I still ponder the next move for my son.
Anyway, it has come to my notice that UK boarding schools would not process application for existing UK students even though the school Registrar comes to HK to inteview HK students during UK's half term exacts.
