英國留學: 跳級Yr 11?

在香港英中Band 1學校完成中三後, 到英國讀書, 可以跳級讀Yr 11嗎? 有學校會收嗎?

Year 11 is GCSE O-level year.
Not many school would be prepared to take a new student to enter that year.
Kids need time to settle into a new environment - to put them in a new environment in GCSE year is really not a good idea.

Why not stay in HK to study one more year and at the same time take GCSE exam in HK and then apply for Grade 12.

For a new comer to UK boarding, your kid must be tremendously disciplined and organized and must adapt to the following:

1. English gap, otherwise cannot understand the instruction of tutors and catch up with the lessons
2. Early sleep, everything must be done before 10:00 pm. My friend's girl even does not have time to go to toilet during prep time since she is unable to complete all the homework before bedtime.
3. Different mode of studying, the lesson does not require your kid sitting in the classroom quietly and your kid must contribute in class proactively such as helping teacher set up the equipment. The homework requires you to do research such as why the writer writes this essay. Not the kind of memorizing in HK.
4. Compulsory sports, 1 to two hour sports time everyday
5. Interaction with housemates and classmates. I've seen some cases that the newcomer is rejected by his peer group since the new comer does not participate in the activity such as eating alone in the lunch and supper time.   

So I think it is not easy to get a good mark at the start unless your kid can settle in the new environment which may take at least half a year and then have confidence to take exam with flying colour.

你意思係出年F.4報GCSE exam? 自己自修得唔得? UK school要早一年報名, 咁即係出年暑假讀完F.3報Grade 12, 會有好o既學校收嘛? 我個女想番嚟香港入U, 而家334, F.6就可以喇, 但去UK要讀多1年, 所以我都唔知應唔應該比佢過去.

I know that the elite Westminster School has admitted one F.4 HK student for Grade 12 ...

我都有同樣的問題：possible to 自修 GCSE嗎？possible to GCSE syl and F.4 subjects at the same time?

I think different student has different ability and potential. You may be in best position to know your kids' strength in order to pave his way forward no matter taking extra GCSE by self study or outside tutition.

I know one agressive parent to ask his F.1 son to take GCSE English, Chinese, Maths & Mandarian exams in HK. It is really crazy and I don't admire it at all.

For grade 12 entry, the school would make a conditional offer according to the entrance test results, interview and internal school reports and then make a formal offer upon announcement of GCSE result.

I think the crux of issue is whether you would like to let your kid to have international exposure or not if financial issue is not your concern.

For those top notch schools, I think it is highly competitive and is quite academic demanding with many assessments and homework.

Your kid cannot revert to 334 if you send him aboard now.

點解要跳Year 11?
year 10 佢地就開始GCSE課程, year 11 就考. 我會建議由year 10 自己揀科開始

Under the UK system, students start P1 at the age of 5. So even if you finish Form 3, it is equal to completing Yr 10. So entering Yr 11 (if possible) it is just normal and in no way 跳級.
