St. Paul Coed VS DGJS

How does it different in terms of

1) study culture
2) loading to the kids
3) loading to the parents
4) common style of the kids

I need to assess my kid (and myself) whether we are suitable to join this top of the top schools.

Any parents can provide some information to the above ?  What else should I consider as well?

The same topic was discussed comparing two schools again and again every year. You can search the key words of "SPCC vs DGS" in the Babykingdom Forum.

My point of view: in terms of overall academic standard and public exam result, SPCC is arguably the best in HK, as measured by No. of A attained, number of students with 6A or above, average number of A, % of candidates passing 14% in HKCEE, and etc. Despite not having the largest number of 10 "A", SPCC has been able to maintain a very impressive academic result over the year.

On the other side, DGS has the best English standard among local schools in HK. It also performs better in music, sports and other contests than SPCC. You should also consider whether you like a single-gender, or a co-educational school. Some friends I know of make it clear that they don't like single-gender girl schools, for fear of the environment being too competitive.

Yes.... I agree with you hui3328.

What I am worry about is the loading of the study....

I heard that the kid needs to take many many tutorials for key subjects after school in general. I need to think about I should support my kid in every aspects.

Both schools target at well-educated middle class families, though there are some students from very rich families or celebrities. As a result, both schools require strong parental supports not just financial resources, but also good guidance, learning environment, working with the school hand-in-hand.

Workload at both schools is not an issue in junior years, at least not significantly more than other local schools. But the pressure will continue to build up as students advance into senior years.

我留意近10年之 HKCEE。印象中，SPCC勝两年。

上次去聽一小学簡介會，校長好識講嘢，家長(包括我)如痴如醉。可惜，會後，我只記得3樣嘢：校長以前教SPCC；SPCC好humble；佢嗰年spcc會考平均有2A，SPCC好humble，所以冇向外公佈。我推測，SPCC好收成的年份都是2個A左右。

而我見過DGS一份報告，嗰年有接近3A。

兩間都係超級名校，各有千秋，我兩間都識人讀(其中一個係樓上list out攞7A小朋友)，兩間都有朋友話好辛苦，補習補到暈，亦有朋友話個女讀得好輕鬆，只係補一/兩科就得，睇下你小朋友資質同你要求。樓主你不妨兩間都報，收左先至再諗。

測驗：
SPCCPS －上學期兩測一考，下學期一測一考．數學科在每次測驗間會有額外的數學比賽．測驗以“測驗週”形式進行．測驗期間沒有／少功課．

DGJS －上學期一測一考（常識相關科目會有多一次測驗），下學期一測一考．平均每週測一科．數學科則每星期都要測驗．學生溫習較輕鬆，家長亦較容易調動課外活動．

考試：
SPCCPS上學期在聖誕後考試五天，聖誕假期要溫習．
DGJS上學期考試在12月頭三天（只考中英數），考試後一直至農曆年會較空閒，很多學生在這段時間外遊．

功課量：SPCCPS 較DGJS多，但仍算合理．

交通：明年DGJS會搬回佐敦教舍，交通十分方便．至於SPCCPS，香港仔隧道經常塞車，交通的確是一個問題．

SPCCPS很著重德育，始終小學階段是人生觀價值觀形成的重要時期．學生積極爭取好成績之餘，亦要時刻保持良好品行．學生中文水平頗高．數學科用中文，水平亦不錯．

DGJS的女孩很active，不會死讀書．學生英文水平頗高，初小學生已能閱讀厚厚的英文小說．學校中文水平似乎在不斷提升．

共通點：SPCCPS 和DGJS的教學並不傳統，能啓發學生思維．兩間學校都要求學生多看不同類型的課外書．

兩間學校都各具教學特色，很難比較那間較好．

不好意思, 有少少資料補充: DGJS 1-5年級下學期是2測1考, 只是6年級才是1測1考。而常識科(包括中、英文常識)則是每個學期2次測驗。

SPCC 有冇精英班...?  因再仔細睇 hui3328 的post, 人均 a/5* 係 2.4.  179名考生共423個 a/5*.

扣除10a, 9a, 同 33個 6a...  即 140人share 206個a.  再加上 74% 英文 5*/5 (179 * 74% - 39 = 93)及 35% 中文 5*/5 (179 * 35% - 39 = 23)...

即係扣除6a以上, 果 140人係 其他科目只有共90 (如果當中有十個八個5a, 4a...)  咁咪成績高低可能差好遠?   我想校方點處理相對低能力的學生?
