Children of Expats in UK

My family is planning to move to London in abt 2 yrs time as my husband will have to work there as an expat.  This means my child will have to attend Yr 4 or Yr 5 in UK when we move over.  Would anybody give me advice on what type of schools can we apply for my child (as an expat)?  Independent schools only? Or are we eligible for public schools?

are your friends UK residents?  then i'm sure they can apply for state schools.

does any parent here have the experience of relocating to London?  do you put your children (about 8 or 9 years old) in day schools or boarding schools?  any recommendation of day schoools and how to apply?
