If I have no plan to send my child for overseas study after P12, is it not recommended to enrol in IB course?

I don't think so.

the Universities in Hong Kong (HKCU, HKU) accepted students with IB... and that was 10 years ago.
If they did it 10 years ago, they are very likely to accept that now.
They actually have a separate admission procedure to accept IB students versus those using the JUPAS system. So don't worry about that.

Just needs to highlight that the admission you mentioned below is through the non-JUPAS channel. The seats available can be quite limited compared with JUPAS.

Besides, the investment of time, effort and money in going through the IB path is higher than the traditional path.

huba, thanks for your sharing, I could understand the limited seats, and extra investment in money, but can you please elaborate more on the "investment of time and effort.....is higher than the traditional path"?  What does it exactly means?

As far as I understand, you need to compete with students from overseas in the non-JUPAS channel.  You need to compete with the top students from China....
