The scores you mentioned are based on 42 or 45. If based on 45, it's not so demanding as HK & UK.

Before holiday mean less time to prepare, I would prefer exam after holiday. It is now very difficult to ask my son to do anything until next year.

You are right.

But at least he knows we will honour him to play as much as he can after exam....

叻仔。看過你的 POSTS,都知他很成熟聰穎,加上他也很努力,一年後肯定有更好的成績。

The first predicted grade based on the 2nd exam results, its critical for fast track admission in HK and UCAS in UK. He knows that and he starts to work harder to secure 40.

I heard a lot of good news from other IB schools, but not my son's school. Like CSS,7 students good offer from Big 3 (I know HKUST still interview hand picked students.) and 5 got unconditional offers. Really let me jealous........

My son talked to some seniors in the last two days and the results are excellent, in average two offers from HKU and or CUHK.

- HKU Business and Law + CUHK QFin
- HKU Global Business + CUHK QFin
- HKU Medcine + CUHK Medicine.......

But really bother me is the offers are conditional ...... even most offers are excellent.

Normally local students won't apply for medicine in the US cos the system is d ...

I quoted the boys are MBBS in HKU, sorry for confusion caused.
HKU is the first choice, but some also apply CUHK medicine.

If the boy not necessary want to come back to HK, UK also a good choice and if they take UK as backup, why not.

ksenia & poonseelai

I try to answer your question about local boys...

Communication skills
- most boys are poor in oral and writing,
- too focus on internet games and MSN or fb.....

Attitude
- boys less aggressive compared with girls, particularly reflected in group interview,
- girls more mature than boys, in terms of studying, career, relationship...

Maturity
- Equal opportunity is a ????????

Welcome to EK.
As HKDSE is new exam with zero reference, I don't have solid info of your questions. That's why my son switched to IBDP instead of HKDSE. Sorry about that.

Just hearsays about my son's schools  non-JUPAS admission status

3 unconditional offers from CUHK in Medicine
2 conditional offers from HKU Medicine
2 conditional offers from HKU Law
1 conditional offer from HKU BBA n Law and Arch respectively
5 conditional offers from CUHK QFin
1 conditional offer from CUHK Global Biz

33 students in IB year 2, 75% students have PG 35+, may be more unconditional offers next year.

Are the offers based on IGSE results and PG?
Based mainly on PG of IBDP, some students also have SAT and IELTS.

Are the ones who got the unconditional offers are with proved academic results?
Based on PG 40+.

What are the conditions for the conditional offers?
QFin 37+/ 45
Medicine HKU 40-42/45
Others not very sure.

How is this result when compared to other IB schools in Hong Kong?
I don't want to compare with other IB schools, as I didn't have all offer info and some universities not yet release all early admission offers yet. Moreover, I feel final offers may be more important than conditional offers.

I also interested to know, my son's school may have more unconditional offers based on PG after a couple of years track record.....

By the way, do these students get similar offers from UK / USA universities based of the PG?Yes, they got offers from UK / USA universities based on PG.

My child is first batch of NSS and so, used PG of NSS for applying UK universities.
HKDSE or NSS is without PG for admission? that's what I know...... May be I am wrong. Can you tell me what's the PG from NSS?

For UCAS application, there need to have predicted grades. So, the school give ...

I see. I mixed at up with Early Admission in HK.
For UCAS, it's difficult to provide conditional offers with zero track record. That's really bother me for my son suppose will be 2nd batch of HKDSE.

Good luck to your child and get in the targeted program.

for IB is it in non-jupas category?
Yes, correct.

so does IB have to compete with others students from foreign place if u wanted to attend U in hk? like China, USA, UK....students?
Yes, correct and also compete with HD and AD holders, if the results are good, IB is preferable among universities in HK.

ANChan59,

可唔可以講吓你覺得邊類性格小朋友唔太適合IB的呢? (except 時間管理差,語文能力差,欠閱讀興趣,被動等等) 因為我都諗緊呢個問題.

Thanks !

Christi

*************************************************

Your question is difficult to answer when related to character(s), I did some researches in internet and can't find many info related to your question. More related pros and cons of IB.

I talked to my son and he provided some observations:

1. All students can survive in IB to score a pass, get 24, may be easier than HKDSE. So they can relax to learn or hea.... (Ha, that's why HKUST only accept students got 30+ in actual score. His comments more on IB in general, not his school specific.). Score high in IB is the real challenge, just think about the core modules, TOK, EE & CAS...

2. language proficiency, good computer skills, even weak in maths still can doing well in IB. But you are weak in language particular in English, poor computer skills, even your Maths and science are good, your can pass and survive in IB, but can't be flying colors.

3. Extensive reading and writing skills are fundamental study skills; presentation skills, critical thinking and analysis can be acquired through learning and practice.

4. Efficiency in learning and multitasking can be critical to do more with less.

5. Open-mind and receptive to take constructive feedback and critique from teachers and peers.

6. Motivation and willing to learn, lack of this, you can't do well in whatever curriculum.

7. Curiosity -> culture, innovation, attitude, environment, relationship .......

*************************************************************

His observations and comments may not the answers we think, but from another angle of a critical stakeholder - student himself......

Any comments?
