Why most students select French class?

Dear all,

Why most students select French class?

How about Japanese and Spanish classes, anyone select?

Doubtedlessly, French is a very popular foreign language in HK after English.

Besides, the academic result of SMC students in external exam is also an encouraging sign.  P5 students got 100% passed in the DELF A1 Exam last year (highest 98/100 and lowest 78/100).

I would prefer Spanish for my boy on back of the rising importance of South American countries and that it is the mother tongue of the world's 3rd largest population.  Perhaps, I am practical.  However, French is also under consideration - more available resources.

Hi Monkeydad,

I'll not pick Japanese as well. Same as you I prefer Spanish since it's more useful than French in long run and more easy to pick up than French.

However, the resources in French is better than Spanish which makes me hard to pick up which one. Also, my girl likes Ms Kwok a lot who is very gd in French teaching. Like last time, she asked us to bring her to one French restaurant which is in French name, then she could tell us the meaning of that restaurant name since it had learnt in this term. This also shows the teacher has made some effort during the class. Anyway, I'll see her progress in Spanish next term before come up any decision.

個人意見....... 升小二前, 我個人係prefer Spanish, 但完成小二課程後, 問了囡囡意見, 她喜愛French, 當然以囡囡喜愛為先, 最後都選了法文啦.

smc既法文資源個人覺得係好d, 因為有學生係以french及英文做主要語言.  不過我都同意spanish都係好有用, 當初都爭扎左一段時間先決定到.

另外到小五會有遊學團去法國或西班牙, 相信可以比機會小朋友運用到佢地學到既野.

As I really don't know all these three foreign languages, I am afraid my daughter will not be able to master them well.

Do you need to arrange private tutor to teach the children?

You are not alone.  I think many P1 and P2 parents are the same, including me.

The syllabus in P1 and P2 is very fundamental - about basic greetings, numbers, colors, body parts, stationeries like ruler, book, pen etc and animals like cat , dog, bird etc.

There are e-class available via school intranet.  Besides, there are also some free on-line learning website covering these basic words.  Hence, you do not need to be worried as far as the school requirement is concerned.  However, it would be another story if you want to exceed the school requirement.

I didn't hire private tutor on these.
