I don't have effective method for such case as my girl was like that when she was 18-20 months, but I want to remind you -- don't raise up your voice during interview, keep smiling even your kid is not cooperative. Teachers may understand the kid and appreciate your patient.
I have experience. My son was not sitting on the chair more than 1 minute during HKPS interview. But the teacher was keep telling me that no problem, just want to see your son and understood child like to walk around. I think no hope at all after interview. However, I got acceptance letter. Don't worry.
外籍老師 interviewed us but it was random. Teacher just talked to my husband and I catches my son to sit down, and repeated this action again again. I have no time to talk to teacher.
If you interested in HKPS, you should adapt their admin service, and also they will change policy without notice.
My son used to be walking around when he was in playgroup. I asked the teacher for advice and she told me to control him from walking away. If he gets used to walking around in class, he will not sit still in the future. I have to let him know how to behave in class. After that, I have always reminded him to sit properly during the playgroup but not forcing him to sit. Now he is in N1, and the teacher told me, sometimes, he will walk in class, but not frequently, and the teacher said it is acceptable at his age.
When he attended interviews last year, I usually would arrive only 5 to 10 min before interview and would not let him play too much before the interview. If he got used to the environment or in the mood of playing, he would not sit still. But different kids have different characters, some ppls would let their kids arrive 20 min earlier for adapting to the new environment.
My son also likes to walk around in playgroup. Could you share with us in more detail how you reminded him to sit still without forcing him? Do you mean you just follow him and ask him to sit down when he starts to walk around? I'm also very worried about having him develop such bad habit

Usually when I noticed he wanted to get up and walk, I would side track him to other things, like pointing to sth else suddenly or pretended to have sth interested, so that he forgot his intention to get away. If that didn't work, I would hold him a bit tight and told him other kids were listening or performing the tasks, he should do the same as other kids. If he insisted to stand up and walk away, I would play the stuff myself or played with other kids and looked like it was very interesting, then sometimes, he would come back.
It was difficult in the beginning, but I kept on trying and trying. His frequency on walking away would reduce time after time.
good point. So many HK parents always pass the teaching kid responsibility to the helper. If they can see the number of children who got the speech delay problem, they won't only rely on helper and TV program to teach their children.
This is so sad that I got two friends' children got the speech delay problem.. so I tried to do better in my role.
