It was, by "tradition", supposed to be the turn for "Halloween" this year.

But according to the school calendar, that week will become "Language Week" instead.

My kid is quite disappointed that there won't be "Halloween" activities this year.

What about yours ?

Bluestar,

I also notice that.

I can imagine the reasons why the “Halloween Party” will be cancelled because of the controversy over the origin of Halloween.
Especially for those parents with religious background, it is debatable whether the “Halloween Party” should be held at school or not?
If you can recall some of the discussion on e-class 2-3 years back, there was rather fierce debate on this event at that time.
But personally, I think it is okay to hold “Halloween Party” as just a fun party for the kids without probing too much on its origin.
Just treat it as a day for the kids to play hard after the first term test.

As for the “Multi-Cultural Day”, it is not controversial at all and I am quite disappointed to know that it will not be held shortly.

But then we need to know more about the exact programmes of the new “Language Week” first.
Will some of the events be very similar to “Halloween Party” or “Multi-Cultural Day” but just with the name changes or will the activities be totally new?

We’ll see.

“Halloween Party” as just a fun party

I'm an athiest so I just treat it, as you said, a as fun party, a costume party.

Religion-wise I'm quite open-minded (so long as human sacrifice is not required).

Afterall, PLK deosn't have any religious background.  Not like the Catholic / Christian schools, nor Buddhist, etc schools managed by religious bodies.

A great pity !

Bluestar,

Yes. it’s really a great pity to see both “Halloween Party” and “Multi-Cultural Day” are no longer held at school and are replaced by the “Language Week”.

I presume “Language Week” means programmes for 5 days.
If so, it will be a good idea to spare half day to hold another party called “Costume/Make-Up Day” or something like that just to let the kids enjoy more after the first term test.

Food for thought!!

I am very disappointed and my child is disappointed as well!!

This school has no religious background, I do not understand why this should be a factor for consideration.

This school is respected for its promotion of multicultural values, why this should be given up?

My daughter and I also felt sad when we first knew that the activities were replaced by 'Language Week'.  But after the 'Language Week', my daughter said she liked the 'language week' as they could play, eat or drink and watch movies in the 'Language Kindom'.  If they want to eat or drink something in the 'Kindom', they need to ask for them in different languages.  My daughter had asked me how to speak in French if she want to drink or eat something.  This encouraged my daughter to learn more in a funny way.  But I think if Language Week, Halloween Party & Multi-Cultural Day can all exist, they will be more

angelprincess,

According to my child's report, the Language Week is also full of fun and the pupils have a lot of food to eat and they can practise the 4 languages with fun.

It will be even better if the Multi-Cultural Day can also be incorporated into the Language Week next year.

Principal,

Yes.  Agreed.  Children can play & eat in the mixture of Multi-Cultural Day & Language Week.  Good idea!  They can also dress national costume.  Great fun!  Hope TSL's spy see our message.
