I understand parents really want their kids to have good result, however the outcome always depends on their ability to give and receive.
My son is 5 years 11 months, he competed in the P1-P2 English solo verse speaking, and he got 87 marks and placed 1st. Teacher at school didn't practise with him, or I may say, my son didn't go to practise actually. Therefore, I teach him at home by myself. It was my first time to teach English Poem too, however we enjoyed the process very much.
One advise to all is - need not to use hands for English poem. Facial expression, intonation, clarity, loud voice are the clue to get high points. BTW there is no mic at the venue.
Try your Best!!!

many thanks for your sharing !!!! My daughter will go for the competition next month. This is her first time too. I wish she will enjoy the whole process and learn a lot from the competition.
