Hi Cutiemo,
From such lot of questions, I can share your difficuties in making the decision.
I will suggest you to think what you concern for your kids. Here are some points for your consideration:-
1. Cost: Allicance is private school but the school fee is quite stable, currently is $32xx. You need to add the additional fee for musical instructment. For my kid of playing flute, cost $200@lesson, about $800 @month, the lesson is either after school or at Saturday;other ECA like badminton, swimming class, art etc need to pay cost but optional;
2. Class size: about 41 pupils per class; so you need to think whether you kid can behavior well in a big class;
3. School space: a bit limit without swimming pool or big open playground, only indoor playground.
On top of the above concerns, APS is definetely a very good school in terms of school moral, teacher qualification, course curriculum, result for secondary school and team spirit between parents etc. Finally, for the study work load, I don't agree that APS is too heavy for the lower class comparing to traditional primary school. Normally, there will be 5-6 types out of about 4 subjects each day for homework. Some project and reading report will give more than one month in advance for preparation. Before examination, the homework is relatively less. say two types per day to allow more time for pupil sto study. Each year has 2 terms in which one test and one examination for each term. There will be ranking for the top 10 pupils for the examination result for each term. The competition for top 10 is great but not much pressure for student, in fact mostly depending on the parents' expectation. For P.1 class, the teacher will read the questions for each subject to the pupil before they write the answer in the test and examination. This help the kids much especially during the beginning from kindergarten to primary level. When they get used to the primary level, they will pick up the examination well and P2 will resume normal.
I hope the above information can help you to make a right choice for your kid. |
