It's true. My top student from a number of years ago started with me as a beginner, then in 3 years she finished Diploma. She practiced 6 hours a day, and she said nothing makes her happier than playing piano.
My nephew was 15 years old, suddenly decided to take up piano lessons, in 1 year, took the Grade 5, then in 2 years, took Grade 8, now he's 18 years old, studying his Diploma, and went to Australia for the summer to improve his English because he wants to study Music for college.
So yes, it's possible, but not common, and not everyone is like that.
When parents ask me, how long does it take to take DIploma, I always reply, it can be NEVER, to less than 3 years time. It all depends on the student.
HOWEVER, I can't stress enough how important it is... studying music is about the experience, and journey, not how fast you get to the destination. And, music... there is never ending paths... until today, I am still learning, probably until the day I die.
So, just because your child is SLOWER in the lessons, or achievements, as long as he/she is learning, that is most important. Not how fast he/she can take the Diploma exam. |
