The news said that a guy caught swine flu after talking to an infected woman at a party for 15 to 20 minutes.  It shows how contagious H1N1 is.  It also explains why 12 pupils got it at St. Paul 's Co ...

Yes, but I don't know why govt decided to stop school for so long - 2 weeks.  In all other countries, schools are closed for 1 week, which is good enough.

If the flu continues in autumn (which is very likely), so is it necessary to close schools for many more weeks??

My question is the same!! What happened if the swine flu doesnt 'slow down' after summer?  Does it mean the schools wll be closed forever?
I am a 'temporary single working mum' so I m really scatching my head of what to do with my daughter.  No helper either!!

Yes, it is really a headache for parents.  I also have no helper, when the kids are staying at home, I am super super busy and they will feel very very boring!!!

It really is a big headache to parents as it is predicted that H1N1 may be more furious in winter.

I think the government is adopting a "wait and see what will happen next" approach.  Any sign of worsening, they will just give the kids an early summer holiday in which case they will have a breathin ...

But now the kids have to attend school for the last school day (June 26)!!  Any chance of infection on that single day??

I think life is much more important than everything. We should be solidarity with the government to overcome this hardtime.

Come on, don't think too much "what if".  Let it be. It is not the end of the world.

The 14 day suspension was most probably a decision with political consideration. Donald Tsang does not want to take any risk any more. He has not exactly been too popular lately.

I have the same doubt. Schools around the world are only closed for at most 7 days. One recent case, the school is only closed for 5 days. I also read that the incubation period of this new flu is only around 4 days. So 7 days of suspension would make most sense. I cannot remember exactly when, but somehow I think Dr Yuen Kwok Yung said (probably a month ago or so) that he feels that 7 days of school suspension should be enough.

In any case, really cannot believe the decision is purely based on scientific findings.

Disappointed with the government again.

Thankful, if one is working, how can one spend more time with their kids because of the suspension?  It would be quite safe to start from tomorrow and until 21st and that will make it altogether 10 days.  But having said that, I dont quite understand how the govt calculate this 2 week suspension.  Weekends inclusive or not?

Surely no parents want their children to get sick.  But working mums like us are just panicking a bit of what to do with this sudden 2 week suspension.

It's a hard decision. If the government says 7 days' school closure will be enough, but unfortunately there is an outbreak after that, people will be furious and they will say the government is stupid ...

But what about secondary schools?  The outbreak started from secondary schools and why there arent any mesaures being taken?  The govt is just too scared to suspend secondary schools as it knows there are too many things involved and it just cant take the pressure.  I saw lots of small kids running around in the shopping mall and in the club house.  Personally I think that means they are either spreading germs or they are more exposed to germs in crowded places than in their own school.
