如何幫子女記(串)英文呢?

我個仔剛讀小一，已用了好幾種方法，但都不是太有效。麻煩大家可否賜教賜教呢?  

我個仔逢星期六、日都要學游水（每次一個鐘），佢爸爸話咁會唔夠時間比個仔休息的溫習（逢星期一默英文），如果他再好似上次默得唔好，就不會比他繼續學了。但我的立場是兩日假期，已沒有去街，只是用了兩個鐘游水，實際影

你的小朋友有無學拼音的, 如果有應該不難串的, 如果沒有可試試我兒子的老師這樣教的, 把一個生子分開記, 例如 elephant, ele=大象的眼睛+長鼻子, ph=身體, ant = 有隻螞蟻在後面追住它.  嘗試分開一個生子來記, 看看他會不會有興趣.

　盡可能我是不會叫個仔停學游水的，因為我覺得這不是影響因素，而且我不想仔仔學野半途而癈的（只是我老公不同意我的睇法）。
　我亦正考慮讓小兒學拼音。　其實我都用一些比較活動的方法教囝囝，如用一些磁石的字母讓他砌，及教他簡單的拼音等。　只是成效就較弱，所以我希望吸取其他媽媽的教法，希望找到更合適囝囝的方法

我囡囡學校提議的方法是: Look, Say, Cover and Write。 方法很簡單，首先望着個單字，然後讀及串出來，跟着把字遮蓋或擦去，叫小朋友寫出來。當然學拼音是一種好方法，但是如果個字很深或者不跟拼音規律的話，便會有麻煩了。

字要串得好，平時小孩便要多閱讀英文書，這樣他們便很容易察覺到自己所寫的字有沒有錯，然後自行更正。

An occupational therapist teach this:

Tell the children that an English word is a train with compartments (syllable). Each compartment contain a grown up (aeiou) and children (consonant) At least they know basic structure of English words.

我女兒學校的外籍英文老師並不建議我們"用中文去解說英文".
當小朋友不明白時, 可嘗試用較淺易的英文去解釋, 又或者列舉例子, 到真係解極都唔明的時候, 才妥協用中文去解.
不妨試下, 看看會不會好d呢?

其實只要買d適合佢嘅書就可以比佢自己睇，唔明叫佢再睇〈可加少少中文）。有d出版社嘅書有分level，你只要跟住一本一本睇上去〈每本要重覆睇多幾次），慢慢你小朋友就唔再要中文解說。

     你有問過你的小朋友游水是他所愛嗎?如果你只是要他身體好些,可否作出少少變動,只游一天,一家人假日為什麼不開開心心出去玩一天呢!不要在教小朋友或對作出主意時和丈夫各持己見,這樣對小朋友不好的,不如大家各讓一步,只游一天,一天叫你丈夫和你們去玩一天,只要大家一起,去什麼地方都沒關係的,香港還有一些地方可以給一家去玩的,在車程中和吃東西時都有很多 中,英文字,我以前都是用這些時段教仔仔認字,他又不覺在溫習,又不用花錢,他以為我和他玩,所以用心去玩,比較入腦的,我不知這方法是否適合你,但試下無妨,而且所有英文都會在日常生活中出現的,你一定可以找到機會教他的,不要指定時間要他學會,學習是長遠的路,日子有功,他會有進步的,越心急就越壞事,他現在只是p1,還有很長的路要走,不要嚇怕他,希望早日看到你開心的報導!

Dear jumama,

你的小朋友平時是自己讀英文書，還是你讀給她聽呢﹖如果她能自行閱讀的話，基本上是認得那個要串的字的 (除非那個字很深，並不是她的程度)。那麽她再跟剛才寫完的字比較，便會察覺到不同的地方，而作出改正。字可能還是錯的，不過她也能發覺，再次更正。

其實我也有用Letterland Phonics 幫小朋友串字，主要是那些難記的字。例如有一次她要默個eight字，首先我教她 “EI” sounds “A”，跟着我講了一個 Golden Girl, Harry Hat Man 和 Ticking Tess 的故事給她聽，說 Harry Hat Man 有兩美相伴，高興得忘記了說話，而 Golden Girl 是一個好孩子, 她倍着 Harry Hat Man也不說話，所以 eight 字聽不到 /g/ 和 /h/ 音。

當她會串的字多了，我便提議她寫信 (通常都是給媽媽的)。對於她己經學串過的字，我會要求她寫得正確；至於未學過的字，我會讓她自己作，如果她問我， 我就串給她聽。這樣做可以引起小朋友寫字的動機和興趣，也就是他們學串字的目的呢!

在美國，小朋友在 First Grade 才寫字。我嘗試找尋有關的資料，發現一個 native child 學寫字的方法跟香港的有很大分別，他們並不偏重串字。Here is what I found in a book about first-graders in America:

“Although invented spelling is still common and acceptable at this age, the teacher will be checking to see that your child's inventions follow some kind of logic. He may not spell words correctly, but the choices he makes should make sense in some way.”

相反, 很多書教小朋友如何愛上writing. For a first-grader:

“Writing is about both composition and the mechanics of putting letters on paper and following the conventions of print. First-graders should have lots of self-expression in personal narratives, stories and brief journal entries, and for practical purposes. As he labors to write something by using the phonics and word-learning skills he has just been taught, he makes these skills his own. Children may also be more likely to pay attention to the shapes of letters and the correct spelling of words as they try to communicate with others in writing.”

照我理解，ESF的學校從來都不會改正學生的spelling，他們認為小朋友大了便會自動更正wrong spelling，然而他們卻很注重writing for meaning。

在香港，情況真的有些ridiculous, 所以愛寫字的學生遠比討厭寫字的少。話說回來，家長還是要面對現實，如果沒有其他辦法，我想只好叫小朋友重復抄寫那些要串的字, 因為這樣可以幫助記憶，不過就要盡量令到這種tedious work 有趣味一點了。

照我理解，ESF的學校從來都不會改正學生的spelling，他們認為小朋友大了便會自動更正wrong spelling，然而他們卻很注重writing for meaning。'  this information is very inspiring.

I have some question in spelling by using Letterland. My son is five. He has learnt the sound of 26 alphabet. So he OK in spelling simple word like cat, dog, pig. But he is studying in normal kinder and now he has to learn words like 'teacher'. But he is not taught 'ea' and 'er' yet in Letterland. He become quite confused why some words can spell by using Letterland and why some cannot.

Grateful for your advice.

Although I have bought most of the Letterland materials, I don't strictly follow its instructions.

I teach my child a particular sound whenever she needs it. For example, I have already taught her "ea", "ee" and "oo" because her school asked her to spell words like "eat", 'feet" and "good".

I also tell my child that there are many English words to which phonics does not apply. When she learnt to spell "you", "one" or "four", I told her straight away, “You can't use phonics here. You must remember it by heart.” Hence, she does not seem to have much confusion.

Let's share more in future.

串英文生字的方法人人不同,最好的方法應該是由小朋友自己領悟出來的.妳的小朋友串字慢或不喜歡串字是因為沒有興趣或沒有動機,妳可以用鼓勵的方法增加他的興趣,例如讓他游多一小時水因他已串好了字,不是事前條件, 是事後獎勵,下次他為了多游一會水,會早早串好字的。對於我自己來說,Phonic是最有效的.

我小朋友讀3年級,串生字很小成為我們的日程,我不會教她串生字,因我期望她叫我幫她默書時她已溫好,如果她告訴我某字很難,我會用phonic的方法教她.我小朋友默書的字很小錯(因她自己很緊張分數),但英文作文就很多時會串錯字,老師和我都不介意,最重要是肯寫出來,串錯字其實很正常,因她們識的字比懂串的字多。

可能我比較心急, D書嘅英文比較深, 所以係由我讀比佢聽, 我會比返D啱佢level甚至再淺D比佢睇, 多謝寶貴意見。
