Compared to other local schools, CKY is not demanding at all in terms of homework and exams.  For junior grades, it takes about 30 minutes for doing homework at home (if the kid has not finished it in school).  Don't think private tuition is necessary.  A little help or guidance from the parents will do.

CKY calls it 'assessment' and it's supposed to be done on an on-going basis.  In preparing for the assessment week, I think parents in general are not getting that 'nervous' about it and don't feel as much pressure as parents with kids studying in other local schools.  Note: CKY is a through-train school and does not follow the local ed system and 'exam scores' are not weighed in that much.

Thank you papa-pop~ it is very helpful information. Any particular kindergarten can easily get in. eg. Learing Habitat, Anfield?
I am planning to send my girl to either ESF school or CKY. Any hints for me that CKY compare to International school. (except CKY provide more billingal with strong force in Chinese)
The atmoshpere in school is more lightly as a international school or local private school?

Hows the text book? Teacher prepare their own or they will use the oversea text book?

When deciding on the kindie, you can refer to another thread on this sub-site which should be of help.

CKY is really a bilingual school.  In general, its students have a good grip of both languages, spoken and written.  However, some would say their English is not as good as those in IS; and their Chinese is not as good as those in local schools. Isn't it a give-and-take?  So far I'm happy with my kid's development at CKY.  I didn't opt for IS simply because I don't want to sacrifice a fair opportunity for my kid to learn (working-level) Chinese, which I find is a much difficult language to pick up.

Think few students (and parents) would find the learning environment at CKY harsh.  There's not much 'systemic' pressure.  Students can learn at their own pace.  Sure you'd find the standards vary from student to student - esp in senior grades.

As for curriculum design, I'm not totally happy with it but at least it's not 'packed' at all, leaving much room for the kids to explore their interests and develop their own learning habits.  Far as I know, textbooks are from around the world (well, not quite 'structured' you may say) while worksheets are developed by the teachers.

Perhaps other parents would chip in.

Hi,

Do you know about the ratio of the number of offers vs. applicants for CKY in this year?
