It's quite stringent in choosing the students. You have to pass their aptitude test in order to be admitted. There's a centre called Infokid providing face to face tutoring on top of this online course, charging around HK$1,000 extra per course. I plan to put my son in their Math course in this summer, if he can pass their test in June.

summer programme is very intensive. 3 lessons per week,3 sets of homeworks. I don't think it's suitable for young kids.

They are famous in Maths programme but not in English programme. Some ppl think the homework load is demanding.

I checked their summer course today and share the same feeling that it's too intensive for young kids.
I will have my kid join the online course only. But I'm not sure which level he should join. He passed the online aptitude test but it did not suggest the level. Anyone has the clue ? My son is now 8 years old at Year 3 in school.

Cheers,
Ruby

Compare with online, would it be more interactive if our kids can QnA, discuss with the tutor and students in a class ?

Hi 502 & Egghead,

Yes, I will enroll my son in the online course first. Probably starting June 1 (you have to register before 22nd of the month to start the course on the 1st day of next month).

I will see if it goes well first. My husband said he can guide my son to try this out.

Cheers,
Ruby

Hi Ruby

Do you worry that giving our kid this level of exposure could lead to another problem ? Would he then finding everyday Math. activities in the class too easy and boring ?

( you may refer to our discussion in the "Gifted Child" forum, since wskwok has started the same there )

While wanting to provide the best stimulation to him, we won't want the "side-effect" though.

Hi Egghead,

Thank you for telling me there are other discussions about EPGY. Honestly, I did not research or think that much before my son did the aptitude test online.

In fact, my son is not a gifted child. I don't think he is and I never think of putting him in the respective tests. However, he seems to have special interest and higher capability in Math, as per the comments from the class teachers from his previous school as well as the current one (he just changed to GSIS this April). Infokid does offer an aptitude test for him in the coming June, however he won't take it (or maybe take it later) as I don't want to put him into the summer intensive course.

I'm not much worried about him losing interest in Maths or daydreaming during school math class after taking EPGY. I think finding the school Math too simple is nothing new for kids like yours and mine, who seem to have more talent in Math !? My son did say that the school Math is easy (especially for his previous school) but he's fine and enjoyed doing them with ease. He took Abacus Math weekly in addition to school math for 3 years (5-8 years old) before.

You know, GSIS is 'famous' for its Math and Science. And my sons did say the school Math now is much more challenging than before. So, I think this 'issue' might not be big with GSIS too.

Anyway, I think it worths trying one course (online fee is around HK$4,XXX) and see how it goes.

Cheers,
Ruby
