Boys in girls school
I had exactly the same concerns like yours last year. I put my son into True Light kindergarten for three years because I like the environment of the school and also as a back up in case he was out of luck in the lucky draw.
Personally, I do think True Light kindgarten is a good choice because my son spent three good happy years there.
For the lucky draw, my son was out of luck. Of course, Wah Yan was one of my choice because it is famous and also free.
I tried the lucky draw but failed, so I have no hesitation to let my son go to True Light primary because TL is a good school afterall. I have your same concern of boys in a girls school and I understand your concern. There are only 12 or 13 boys in this year term.
When I choose TL, I also consider other factors, for example, the environment, quality of the teacher/school and also the quality of the students as well. There is a school just opposite to where I live and it is a very common choice in my district, boys and girls school, free...., but I know that the students in this school is very competitive. Honestly, I don't like school that are too competitive and especially those with "superstar class 精英班". I want my son to be happy, love to learn and have spare time in things that he is interested in or even play. Hey, he is just a kid!
Of course, some of the parents insist that their sons/daughters have to work hard, starting from primary 1, to ensure they can get into a good secondary school. Hey, I am sorry, I am not that kind of mom.
Since September 2007, my son is happy, he gets used to primary education faster than I expected (I think the school did a good job on that). His grades are not excellent, but good enough. He told me his teachers are very nice to them, he obeys the teachers and the teachers said he is a nice boy causing no trouble. Of course, he spends most of his time playing with the other 6 boys in his class, but he has no problem with the girls at all.
Speaking of secondary school, 63% of TL boys gets into English secondary school last year. If your boy is very outstanding, he will have the chance of getting into 皇仁 which is in the same school district (God knows what will happen in 6 years, especially in the ever-changing Hong Kong education system!).
What I am saying is that -- True Light is a good school. You should think about what you really want? What kind of parent you are? What kind of education you want -- grades and grades for all? If so, TL may not be your choice. |
