亞Sir堅持要改為Who are reading?
亞Sir話如果睇住幅圖畫問, 問題最好用Who are .......?

但本書例句都寫Who is standing under the tree?
唔通本書印錯??
被亞女問到口啞,叫她信亞Sir 定信書? 因為什麽原因?

又好obvious, 因例句都係用is,
通常係你對住一班人問, who are you reading ? 因你知唔係只一個人係處reading..
但如果根據picture去問, 通常都係用單數, 因你係假設答案係單數or even 係 0.

但如果題目己比左answer, 要你寫question, 我就會用are

我覺得係亞sir唔岩

Since it does not provide the answer first, I would use "is" instead of "are" to ask a question.

其實,亞Sir的堅持是對,明明見到兩個人,當然是"are",唔見到就冇得好講.

書是死的,它只是助你學習,人都可以出錯,為何書唔可以錯呢!!最要緊是明白幾時用咩,如果一天亞Sir教錯的話,你會點處理呢!!堅持定 為分數呢

題外話,其實有些書所寫/用的英文都好本地(中國英文), such as Longman 的英數文字題

Me too. 其實我覺得兩個都岩，但都未知有幾多個，用is，例句都係咁。如果例句用are，我就set個situation係問的人係睇住幅圖，就用are。

如果亞女問到我啞，我會話兩個都岩，(支持亞女原來睇法，等佢不失自信)但尊重阿sir，都要照改正，考試測驗遇到就用自己認為對的答法，到時就不一定錯(有主任呀咁screen答案嘛，應該，不清晰的應出唔到街)，如果真係又錯，只有話唔好彩

唔知呢度有無小學教師，我覺得而家D家長，好多都讀過下書，呢類語焉不詳題目答案，不是話答案係咁，就要人接受。

One should always use "who is reading?" in generic sense cos u are not supposed to know the answer (that there are more than 1 person reading) when u ask the question.  Hence, given u see the picture to ask "who are" is absolutely bizzare.

So the example "who is standing under the three?" is correct.  The teacher twisted the question to match the answer is wrong.  I suggest to discuss this with the teacher, though I won't expect the teacher to admit he is wrong.  At least he feels the urge to be more cautious next time cos some parents' english could be better than his.

Just a little opinion.

I do think the example is wrong when we are refering to the picture to give answer to this exercises, as some of you already have said.

Some insists that when you are asking such a question, we should use "Who is" as we don't know (assuming don't know) how many persons are involved.

However, do you think in practical experience, if  the door of a Meeting Room is closed and showed "Occupied", even if you didn't hear a sound, you will never ask "Who is in the room?"  We still asked, "Who are in the room?"   as we will assume a Meeting consists of more than 1 person.

其實宜家大家都覺得若不是老師錯，就是例句錯，咁作為老師是否應處理一下例句是錯的情況呢，明明白白說清楚：例句錯了，為何是錯…，不要混淆小朋友呢？

No need to be accusational.  Just a discussion.  Easy easy.  I am prepared my kid won't get full marks in his english homework based on the way I teach him, which I believe is right though may not be so according to his teacher.  You have misunderstood what I meant by "given u see the picture to ask that question...."  (not your fault, maybe I didn't explain myself clearly)

Last night I almost raised a question.  What if we are not given a picture (or that picture in particular), how would u ask the same question - I mean one won't ask "who are reading A book?" One will ask (e.g. a teacher in a class) "who are reading books?" or "who is reading a book?" not "who are reading a book (together)?"  I would not ask my question as in the book if I want to know the names of persons reading the book.

As far as your example of "who are standing under the tree?" If I engage in a conversation like that, I probably will ask "who are those standing under the tree?"

For jk67jk, I will still ask "what is in the meeting room?"
