My daughter usually speaks English. In that case, would there be chance for her to pass the interview? Anyone passed the interview by answering in English?

it is interesting to see there are many "No" here...

no open day
no website
no graduation
no NET
no phonics
no ...

but still many parents are interested to KV...

I got the answer in last parents' day...teacher told me how my little monster behaves as good gal in KV...it surprise me and my wife... KV is right choice...

It's difficult to say as the school has its own criteria to select candidates, but the interview is conducted in Cantonese.

Does your girl understand Cantonese instruction like "sing a song" and is able to answer simple questions in Cantonese like "What's your name?" & "How old are you?" "Who comes with you today?"  If not, I think you better start training her on these before interview.

I had the same problem last year, but I started communicating with my girl in Cantonese a few weeks before the interview.  Finally she passed.

Moreover, your part, as parent, is also important.  You need to know well about your kid's growth & development as there will be questions about this during the interview.

Don't worry!  Try your best & good luck to you & your girl.

Yes!

將軍澳有2條校車線.

1條由頭站將軍澳中心 -> 觀塘 (調景嶺維景灣畔屬於呢條線)
另1條好似新都城->鑽石山

Me too.  But, I trained my girl to answer simple questions in Cantonese 2-3 weeks before interview.  Finally, we passed the interview luckily last year.

During the beginning of interview, my girl was shy to answer in Cantonese, so I translated those simple questions (only 2 questions: name, age) to my girl.  She answered in English, and I encouraged her to give answer again in Cantonese. She did and I found she already built up condifence in the interview.  But, the interviewer doesn't like it and ask me "does she understand cantonese?".  So, I stop translation.  She sang a very nice song to teacher and did the other parts very well.  Try your best to help your child to answer in Cantonese.

My girl now faces "Cantonese" problem in KV.  I need to train her up.

Just curious to know if your daughter used to speak in English, why not let her study in an English-speaking school, then she will not have the "Cantonese" problem?

I believe KV is the best (for P1 application).

And, she can improve her "Cantonese" in KV. I hope she can overcome it in few months. Cantonese is also important. 我地都有同佢講廣東話架. 姐姐同佢講英文.

I think nowadays, most parents would want your children have good proficiency in English. Thus, most of you including me starts communicating in English with my own children. But facing the problem of the school interviews and communication with other little children, I think I should have used cantonese right from the beginning.

Don't worry & don't under-estimate the ability of your kid. Kids can handle languages very well, so long as one person is responsble for one language with the kid e.g. daddy speaks English, mom speaks Cantonese. Kids also pick up languages quickly from their peer. By the age of 2.5-3 years old, they will be able to "change channel" & use appropriate language to communicate with different people.

Take it easy & hope to hear good news from you after the KV & other KGs interviews.

十分同意. 我囡囡跟部份同班同學一樣, 他們用英文互相溝通. 我對囡囡有信心, 半年來可提升廣東話能力. 加油.

KV conducted interview by Cantonese only! Last year in my son interview, when teacher ask him question in Cantonese, I translate it into English!------- He pass and got accepted into K1!
