I am sorry to hear to your news. The standard of St. Mary, especially English is very high. This is a FACT.  Please teach your kids spelling fr 1 to 100 and Pr.1 grammar. As u know, the school skips Pr.1 English. The first 6-month is still OK. BUT after that, u may feel some pressure fr the cirriculum. Teachers are all OK, maybe we r lucky. Also, girls MUST behave GOOD. Anyway, please encourage her and tell her school is really good. Homeowrk is not that much. Normally they finish them before going home. BUT Chinese teacher will tell your kid if they don't do their internet homework frequently. Teachers did check the internet homework.

Don't frighten her. She will get used to it shortly.

每年升中, SMCC 除了收自己小學加埋天神那邊, 實有 quota 收外面學生, 問題是收幾多和收幾叻的學生, 點答你呢！

什麼成績才可申請? 哪學校較多?~~我想"申請人的成績一定比較好的, 在原校名列前茅". 這是我個人意見.
有冇真實例子?~~ 認識過一個插班生, 之前在私校考到第2名.
甚去申請?~~寫信申請

My daughter will be P1 student 2008.  Heard that there will be a test before P1 to divide the students, is this true?   To see the new students' level to get the better one to one class and the others to another?

What is the scope of this test?  Eng, Chin and Maths?

As a old girl, if your academic record is not good, you will be classified as bad student and got different attitude. Some of my old classmates is asked to quit the school as they only failed in 2-3 subjects.

Re test on orientation day.  Don't worry, heard if the girl does poorly, the school will assign her to a tutorial class for that subject.  It's actually nice for the kid to adpapt easier.

Let me try to response:

poor mean that the standard of the girl is not reached the subject requirement, according to the test, school will know the standard of all of the girl.

I tried Round 1(15)but failed. Now I got in Round 2, I'm not 31.  I got from part A.

Dear rdc888,

Sorry for this late reply cos I haven't checked this column for a while.

Heard from a current P1 girl (ex my daughter's kindergarten) who came back to talk about her experience:

e.g. for Chinese, they were given "2-word phrase" and were asked to make a complete sentence.  

She failed to do so and was assigned to the tutorial class.  The mom was actually happy about the arrangement because the girl has close attention and improved.  That's why I said don't worry.

Had a trial practice already !  It is an useful and interesting learning site to my kid.  Certainly her English with spelling and writing will improve a lot after a short period of practice .  

As a parent, I like both the parts vocabulary & writing task best .  

Children can learn the skill of phonetic to spell the words according to their individual sounds, as well as the part of speech of each word. After finishing the essay, she also tries to write some relative sentences as what she would think. It is helpful for them to do dictations & writings.
