It's just the need of your child to have such Grade 5 thoery lessons / course. Somehow the primary 6 or secondary schools student may not have enough time to prepare. (Certainly, we don't know what age your child is.)
In other words, the earlier the theory exam completed, the more freedom of piano learning you could have.
When I taught in a leading piano studio, the best class with 48 students obtained a brilliant result of a total of 12 distinctions and 23 merits together with 9 passes. (You may also know what the passing rate is). The course is HKD 1300 (16 lessons / 2 hrs), i.e. 32 hours. While a normal individual lesson costs around HKD 100 / 30 mins (just for your reference, and is subjected to fluctuation in the market). Rough calculations show the price is around HKD 6000.
Anyway, the course length of individual lessons is according to the diligence, level and enthusiasm in music of child.
