My son also said that 一定要交, but there is no topic / subject, is that meant you can design / draw anything you like in the poster?

I guess it should be 視藝科. The art teacher asked the boys yesterday whether they were aware of this. I believe that there might be some confusion in between. As a result, the same notice was distributed to the whole class again. Have you received the same notice again last night?

Yes, we got the same notice last night. My son said for those who did not hand in the design next Monday, they needed to stay in school to finish it after school.  However, he is not so sure.  They have dictation on Thursday and Chinese dictation on Friday, simply no time to do it.  

The Ali Baba is quite difficult for my son, lots of words to spell.  He even did not pronounce some of the words right.  The previous English teacher is very good, my son could read the Aladdin without my assistance.

To be honest, the homework, assessment and dictation are too heavy. We don't have enough time to join additional activities. My boy received the scope of English dictation on Monday and it will be taken on Thursday.There are 10 full senteneces for him. I think there are more than 15 words which he don't know how to spell. Tonight, I have to fight with him after office.

Do it on Sat or Sun la! It is one of the activities that I planned for the weekend.  
As mentioned before, I don't know why assessment, Chinese & English dictations, all of them have to take place on the same week, making us so busy.  
For the English teacher, my son has the same comment as you. It seems that the discipline in class is not too good and the boys like to compare the two teachers, not really accept the new one. However, 3A likes Miss Hon very much.

My son will be Ying Wah's P.1 student in the coming Sept, I always read your moms' message about the homework loading. That seems becoming much heavier than before which I really worry about. The school that my son is now studying do not have many homework.

我都已經慢慢咁適應學校節奏喇   
一下學期開始就日日唔停喇~~冇計...唔想佢有退步嗎!!!    講起默書...我仔星期一開始溫習...溫左2日都總算識...其實有部份係...教緊故事書內容黎...佢有睇就識架喇...所以唔好太擔心啦!
而評估我都冇嘜點同佢溫...都係幫下佢寫下d生字...作下d句字咁咋!     
自從下學期我仔每日都係玩小左喇...好彩佢冇嘜炸形   

我已經停哂學校d課外活動喇...到升小二先再睇下有咩好野比佢學啦!

我仔報左圍棋喇....在暑假開始...每星期一.三.五...2個星期入門班,之後就每星期返一堂...佢知道報左名後勁開心呀!   
我在暑假幫佢報左個體操班呀...都好平 $600有10堂呀...每堂個半鐘!係香港國際音樂學校個中心攪架...都幾多課程學!

Any course at 香港國際音樂學校個中心recommended? J & P don't like 體操!

So far I have only enrolled football, table tennis and computer course for them.

Homework... not very much, if compared with my son's previous school. At least less copy homework and will never ask your child to copy whole charpters before the test (my son's previous school did this).

Since Prin. Lam joined the school, the homework has been less. They would ask the boys to do the odd number questions instead of whole page.  This has served the purpose of learning already, I believed.  Though the homework is not so much, the requirement on the English level is harsher, especially after the 85% requirement.  Therefore, the boys need to work even harder to cope with the test, dictation and to understand what is being teached.  I believed this direction is right. Though my boy got lower marks than before, his English did improve quite well.  

How much your boy can learn is some how  depends on which teacher teaches him.  This is true at least for my boy. He can concentrate better and hence can learn better if the class is interesting or he likes the teacher.  Though the school has some direction to the teacher, individual teacher's teaching skills do has deviation.  Anyway, the worst ones should have left the school.  There are more and more good teachers.

各位，
昨天兒子把前天做的數學功課又重新做一次，因為格式不對。功課是書上的容量化算，如果直接把答案寫在書上，不到五分鐘就可以做完，一樣可以練習到容量的化算。去年的數學老師就讓學生把答案直接寫在書上。可是今年的老師卻要求用簿做，又抄題目、又列式，用了大半個鐘頭，但在數學上的增長卻不見多了。 :cry:  :cry:

又有一次，功課是問那些角是銳角。兒子答了"A, B, E"，結果是全錯，答案是" ∠A, ∠B,  ∠E"。  [size=large]唉..... 活動教學，有幾個老師真正理解它的意義！

我幫matthew在YMCA報了暑假籃球班,上年打網球,曬到黑炭甘,今年都係報室內,唔洗甘辛苦!

There's an intranet mail from a YW parent (she's a member of PTA) asking us to apply for a seminar to be held by EMB on the hot topic of "language policy of secondary schools".

I think we should voice out our views in the seminar!

我星期六去了聽講座。將來舉行3+3+4，我覺得就讀一條龍學校，高小至初中是蜜月期，學生要好好把握這幾年去多嘗試不同的事，找到自己的方向和興趣，以便迎接高中的挑戰。將來中、英、數、常是必收科，另選3科做electives，文、理任選，還有很多其他科可揀。高中時，學生的成績由校內成績(測驗、projects、考試（除了mock exam))和公開試組成。每人也有個人的Portfolio去紀錄一切。

將來評分不再有A、B、C、D、E，而是分為1、2、3、4、5這5級，成績最好的百分之一屬5**，成績最好的百分之三屬5*。我覺得新制對最叻的少數人無影響，對成績最差的一班讓他們有達到甚本能力的資歷。反而中等資質和成績的人，就要看彩數，能否遇上賞識自己的老師、其他如老師評分鬆緊、學校程度高低等，都會間接影響成績，相信初實行那幾年必定很亂。

但仍要視乎學校開什麼科目,傳統的band 1學校都會以學生入大學為大前題,必定會開傳統的的科目phy,chem,A-maths等,而banding低的學校則會考慮加入職業導向的科目,
為了學生可以多些科目選擇,有些同一辦學團體的學校,甚至考慮學校可交換學生上課添!(A學生上午在自己學校上課,下午到另一所學校上課),是否會實現,還看新高中的發展,總言而之,到時教育界又一番新景象!
不過無論怎樣變,有好的語文能力和見聞多必然是最重要的.
