RE: Portfolio
I have no idea how to make it.  I think it is not a key factor for selection by using which kind of software such as MS-Words, Excel or Powerpoint.  In my opinion, as long as the strengths of a kid and a kind of courtesy to the school are being shown clearly on documents, that is enough.  It happened that I saw some articles in BK teaching how to make a portfolio.  The parents said they had paid over a thousand for making portfolio.  I wonder if it is worth to do so.

我都信portfolio作用不大, 上年我有個friend佢囡囡又係讀SC K3, 佢一向都話portfolio作用不大, 加上佢都冇咩cert可以放入portfolio, 所以佢都係自己求其做! 佢囡囡咩cert都冇, 只係得3張興趣班attendance cert, even校際比賽都冇參加, 結果DGS & 九龍塘小學收o左佢個囡, 所以佢話成績表加面試表現最重要! (i.e. 佢係冇家庭背景, 當年佢個囡都係second round後備入SC K1呀!)

Agree with cherriemama & chingyu, portfolio應該只係 配角, 面試表現先係戲肉, otherwise, 洗乜咁多人力物力arrange interview啫, 人人send個成績表 + portfolio俾學校得啦, 不過我明白你, 你做事一向認真要求又高, 我呢d就求求其其.  

相信when you were still a working mom, 都in
過好多人, 我就見得多, 個CV靚靚, qualification & experience 好 relevant, first class honours畢業, 嘩! 點知見唔夠3分鐘已想死, d communication skills差到不得了, 反而好smart 好presentable嗰d, 成績只係中上, 我一向都揀後者.

Portfolio -- Agree with you all that portfolio is not a very important element in P. 1 selection.  我個 friend 個囡今年在 DGJS 讀P.1, 佢當年連 portfolio 都無交, 佢家境中上, 父母都係公務員.

DanDan呢期經常唱putonghua song <小老鼠>, 你哋小朋友鍾意唱呢首嗎?  佢哋仲玩貓捉老鼠遊戲, 女仔先扮貓, 男仔扮老鼠, 然後調轉, 好好玩喎.

My son studies at SC K1.  The school asks us to buy the Oxford Reading Tree.  Should I buy the whole set, or just the supplementary ones?

Hi Lawrence-mom,

If you can get the story books from any source (eg. graduate), you may just order the supplementaries which are done in class and never send home so far.

The story books will be used in class and home as there is a reading record where the English teacher and parent will put comments on it (supposed to be daily on parent's part).

我都記得有"小老鼠"廣東話版, 但DanDan只唱過一兩次, 問佢佢話鍾意普通話版多d, 因學呢首普通話版時有貓捉老鼠玩, K1嗰時無玩喎, 都唔知真定假.
