Re: 家有自閉傾向的小朋友......
Hi JoLau,
After the assessment the peadiatrician should have given you a brief report (pink slip), first half of the report you will see your child's cognitive/language expression/language understanding/phsyical development/hearing/vision abilities. If training/special services are required the peadiatrician will tick on the second half of the report, and a social worker would tell you where the services are located and you can pick the locations that are most suitable to you. I have a list of the i-class and EETC centres, but you can't call them to registered for the service, it would have to be done by the social service dept.
My son was diagnosed to have AF couple weeks ago, since the queuing for EETC could take quite a few months we are taking private sessions with Heep Hong ST weekly.
Looking forward to hearing your experience with international school. Our original plan was to send our son to international school, but recent experience really changed our mind. I went to an interview with international school before realized my son had AF, he did not coorporate during the interview, he did all the things the teachers asked (matching cards, puzzles and drawing), but he refused to talk to the teacher and look at them, the school told me right away they could not take him because they could be sure of his language ability, but they asked to go back for another interview in couple months time. The next day I called them back and offered to send them a video clip of me playing with my child, they refuse straight away and did not want to continue any conversation with me. I was really bothered by the principal's attitude, not because she rejected us in the first round of interview but more because they shut the door of conversation..... we decided not going to the followup interview because we do not want our kid to go to a school who only care and welcome what they term as normal behaved kids.
Quite contrary experience was after we confirm he has AF, we spoke with his current kindergarten as we want the school to know and see how they would think after knowing the fact, we do not want our child to be discriminated. As always this local kindergarten never ceased to surprise us, the principal and teachers urged we do not remove our son from the school, they think my son is doing great at the school and making friends, taking him to i-class could set him back. They agree he has room for improvement in social sckill and language development, something that they have been helping him to improve since day one. I really thankful to this school for their love and faith in our son. |
