Dear P1 parents,

Can anyone share how they "work" with your child (e.g. follow up the homework, dictation, daily revision, etc.)?  My son is "small" boy.  Not sure it is too much already and he looks "tired" and "afraid".

I am very afraid of "discouraging" him.

Please help!

My son is "small boy" too.  It's difficult to expect him getting full mark from dictation or test.  So, I think the solution is:-  降低要求.  We should believe they would be getting smart in some days.  But, first of all, don't let them scare of learning and studying.  It's only my opinion.

Are you a working mum?  Who takes care your son's homework?  Can you share how you do revision with your son?

Unhappy - not only myself.  My son too.  I am very afraid that he will be "frightened" by this.

May I share my experience with you?  

Don't be disappointed.  It's normal case of new students especially your son is a "small boy.  As CEMA said, reduce your expectation, don't compare with others.  If possible, let him to take an extra-activities so that let him feel comfortable and more understanding of school and teachers.  Like me, my daughter is a new student last year, I let her to attend "Choir" (on Friday) so that she may know other classmates and take a rest.

About the marks of "assessment" or "dictation", it would not affect the final result of performance report so that don't give him too much pressure or feel disappointed on "low marks".  

About the homework, you are better to check carefully and reduce the correction.

My schedule:
After school, my son tries to finish homework (for sure, he makes mistakes and misses out some pieces of homework).  Then, he naps for 1-2 hours.

I come home around 7:30, then we take dinner until 9:00.  We check homework and do revision until 10:30-11:00.

I'm a working mum too with two kids.  My husband works in China.  My elder daughter also studies at another traditional primary school P.2.  I'm extremely busy when I'm home.  I don't hire 補習老師 cause I am stupid in HR management, ha ha!  I only believe that if I try my hard to do, my children will understand my heart.  I hope they can perform themselves independently in the future.

By the way, I'm a "fierce" mum sometimes.  I also learn how to control my temper.  When I'm getting angry, I try to put aside the test, dictation and homework material, take a deep breath and talk to my kids in other interesting topics.  

I remember my friend told me:  "no matter how smart your kids are, it could be useless for you (mum) if you are unable to keep the relationship.  When they grow up, they will not put you (mum) on their mind".
