As far as I know, only the top 20 in class and top 50 in form are listed in the report card.

"考第幾都冇所謂啦"
This is probably true at this stage especially since most children are not used to regular examinations. But when they get to higher forms, rankings will affect their banding for secondary school allocation directly. We really hate to pay too much attention on positions, but it is a sad reality!

不強調競爭的教育

it's unfortunately so true in hong kong...
we do have friends from Finland and have discussed education together, and both me and my wife are really impressed by the system they have!!!
envy the learning to know more, and not getting more marks from exams.

i think the main different is the social gap in Finland is much smaller than other countries. the behavior people respect other professionals is so high, they don't look down on people either he is a lawyer or carpenter...
we do admire their social environment!

唉, 我呀女都未試過有名次, 即係話好打有限啦.

求學問定求分數, 真係好茅盾........一向都認為小朋友應該愉快學習, 但而家呀女已經五年級, 要考慮中學問題, 個心又真係十五十六. 最重要都係唔好學壞, 所以希望佢入到一間校風好嘅都算喇.

深層次些少看, 先敬羅衣後敬人的現象並非源自教育制度, 而是政府政策.

香港作為一個近乎絕對資本主義社會, 政府政策從開埠至現在都是向資本家傾斜, 生於斯, 長於斯, 對此現象已經司空見慣, 感覺麻目. 但這種政策事實上令到香港人的普世價值是要出人頭地, 正如年前有一套戲還是什麼的, 名稱居然叫 "嫁個有錢人"..............當時看到這個名目真的非常感慨!

外國很多地方的階級觀念比較低, 因為他們懂得尊重, 這固然是一代又一代延續下來的價值觀, 但政府對低下階層的尊重有著帶頭的作用.

看到 flo 兄有關 lawyer and carpenter 有感而發, 有些少離題, 多多包含...........

From our experiences, competition at schools is at least fairer than competition at work.

And don't forget that our children are now in TSL because they ranked higher than >1000 applicants after the interview competitions.

Agreed, "愉快學習" & "最重要都係唔好學壞". are the keys I want my daughter to be.

我呀女都未試過有名次, 不過已經睇化咗

, 雖然佢都知而家小五啲成績對佢選學校係好緊要, 佢都知自己要努力, 但係有啲嘢真係迫唔到, 只希望佢入到一間校風好嘅學校就已經心足啦.
