Re: 今日St. Teresa interview

Dear all parents,

Congratulation.

St Teresa School Kindergarten (Prince Edward Road) is a very good kindergarten.

My daughter is graduated from this kindergarten. She loves this kindergarten very much. Now, she is a primary student. Even though St Teresa school has no more primary section, you are no need to worry the primary application to other private, DSS and subs. schools.

When I write this message, my daughter is sitting beside me. Her feeling to this kindergarten is what I write above.

Be confident.

It is a low profile school and misunderstanding by the public. All kids are treated equal no matter what's the background they are.

Re: 今日St. Teresa interview

tt2001,

1/ There are a total of 4 classes last year for K1. 2 am classes and 2 pm classes.

2/ When I registered for my son 3 years ago, the school distributed a list of the private school buses running different routes. For Lam Tin the cost is $650-$700 at that time. For Lagune City the cost is $580. But these are the price 3 years ago. But indeed the exact cost would be advise by the school bus drivers themselves when you contact them because the school has no direct relation with those private school buses.

3/ Yes, the kids have to bring their own snack and water. In fact you would find that the school has no extra fees required other than the school fee.

Re: 今日St. Teresa interview

Dear all parents,

Todays' St Teresa is not exactly the same as fifty years before, especially in kindergarten. The changes is good to children's development in today's view.

Children in this kindergarten will learn self motivate, independence..... even in K1's early days.

To know more about a school, the most effective method is going to visit it.
Parents can go to St Teresa kindergarten's front gate in the lunch time, say 12:30 pm to 1:00pm to see the students, to listen the parents in there or even talking to them.

Truth is out there.

Years before, I used to be there.

Smily, 可否再多講幾句呢方面資料,STS人數小,難得遇上了解情況而又說得詳細的家長。(已看你另一篇有關幾家kinder比較的回應,謝謝!)

Re: 今日St. Teresa interview

Hi, tt2001

I am so glad that you make the decision.
As being a small school and kindergarten in Hong Kong Catholic Diocese, its status within Catholic Schools is good.
My kid was admitted to this kindergarten years ago. At that time, my kid was admitted by several famous kindergartens also. I also balked at that time.
At last, I made the choice by the following reasons:
1.        A private primary school directly connected at that time:
It is a good back up. Its’ primary school students is a very good and strong ‘step stone’ in applying other famous catholic traditional schools. One example is the HKCEE 10A student in La Salle this year. He started his early primary school life in this school. His father concluded that a good school is important to his son education.
In fact, almost all students in this kindergarten and primary treat it as step stone to most famous school. I was the one with that idea. The teachers and staff in the school know this fact but they are very happy to know that their students can have a seat in famous school. How self-denial and generous they are.
2.        Reasonable and less school fee
Just around one thousand and several hundred dollars.
3.        Good impression of teacher during interview
During the interview, I showed impatient and too much concern in what my kid’s answers. The teacher first comforted me with simple words and soft voice.
The teacher seems that not concern much about whether my kids’ answer is correct or not, but only concern the response of parent and kid.
My impression was the teacher knew that parents were important to kids development as well as the teachers.
It proved that I am correct in three years school life of my kid in this kindergarten.

In fact, no more other reason for the decision. As I know that education is by mankind, especially in kindergarten.

For ‘Even though St Teresa school has no more primary section, you are no need to worry the primary application to other private, DSS and subs. schools.’,
It is the fact that its kindergarten graduates can have private and DSS primary as back up as its kids standard, including academic is qualified by most primary schools . Though sometimes this process may be have difficulty, most the result is satisfactory to acceptable.

Re: 今日St. Teresa interview

Hi toffeeli,

Can you tell me the english standard in STS as they don't have native English teacher?
How is the portion for Chinese & English classes?
Will they focus on written English rather than oral?

Thanks for your comments in advance!

Re: 今日St. Teresa interview

Vivikay,

First of all, I must say that I really don't want my "personal" impression of the school would bias your decision though I'm willing to share with all of you. Every parent would have some personal selection criteria. In fact, it is best that parents could visit the school to watch the students, see how the students behave, talk to the parents, feel the studying environment.

Personally, I would say the english standard of STS is high in particular on the written side. This is particularly beneficial when the students have to take written test in P1 entry admission. Regarding the oral side, I'm not too sure because I haven't seen how the lessons are conducted. (My son used to speak english with me at home, so I don't know what if he just have oral lessons at school). But definitely, there are a number of story books and english conversation books each term.

Surely, STS don't have native english teacher. Also, other than english lessons, all lessons are conducted in cantonese.
