Bluestar,

After 5-1/2 years training on earth, my girl now  speaks fluent Chinese and English.   Six years training in Japanese / French, I expect she masters the langauge much more than basic !!
...

Well, it depends on whether you have the chance to use / speak a language.  Not much chance to do so in HK.  And after all there's only 2 lessons (35mins each) per week, not enough to really "master" French or Japanese.

They should know the common sentences, simple nouns and verbs and simple sentences.  But don't expect them to write a passage (compo) (well, not in French at least).

They should be able to write a few simple paragraphs about themselves, what they like to do, etc.  The simple stuff.  But not the difficult stuff.

Just treat it as an ECA, if that makes you feel better.

Yes.  They can only write simple paragraph, not difficult stuff.  e.g.  for our P5 students, they are now teaching the time, but I think it's enough for them as all simple sentences can be mixed into paragraphs

Joshua_BB,

Don't worry.  I think Flostangraphy will stay with us for at least 6 years.  佢咁樂觀, 唔會為少少嘢而離我地而去嘅.  何況, 呢個forum係任何人都可以上嚟chat.  佢又點會錯過同我地分享呢.  我地亦都需要佢同我地share information架.

i'm just a bit busy today...
to be honest, i really get benefit from you parents of this forum during this year!
i have been getting a lot of advise and information from your sharing and exchanging information!
it's not common to see so many parents active in other similar thread from other schools, so it is really precious and something i should treasure!!!
so no way for me to stop it!

想補充, 之前所講嘅只係 for Chinese students.  For non-Chinese stream, 佢地嘅 French lessons 會深入好多.

you are right.
i can just share the info for french stream as we have only talked with french teacher, not japanese during the open days.
for what we have seen, the homework of the p6 pupils are quite even. overall my wife found they have a average level. her honest comment was that writing may a bit under level than french international school. but it's a good level nevertheless. she likes the way they use french comic book to teach the pupils as well!
as for speaking, we all know that it's really base on the environment you can practice one language, so somehow you can't compare with pupils who are studying at french international school ....  however, TSL really has advantage compare with other schools.
from a very simple observation was the TSL french room has had a lot of school pupils compare to 2 other primary schools which have french as well but none pupil was there during the open days when we visited.

Hi, Good morning, friends,

Welcome back!  Friends!  我地繼續暢所欲言啦!  Come on!

Angelprincess , Bluestar,

Thank you for your info and comments.  I guess I have to be more realistic.   Few more things:

1)  In terms of English, I guess students at TSL is well above average comparing to student from traditional schools.  What about their Chinese ability (Chinese/English Stream) ?  In comparison to some of the good primary schools, should I expect their Chinese standard is somewhat "as good as", 60%, 70% or 80% ......  ?     One major reason I prefer TSL over CKY is that I want my kid's Chinese is to be at a reasonable level.

2)  I know that there are quite a number of Southern-Asian students at TSL.   Do they also have a significant number of "white" students ?    If not, I wonder why not.

3)  Does TSL have "資優" program for bright students ?

4)  Wondering why the school name in Chinese is "陳守仁" while English name is "Tan Siu Lin".  They don't seem to be related words.

Thank you in advance for your inputs !!!!!!

It has been nice chatting with you people.
