Preston is not taking Letterland anymore as Miss Jill said that he was teaching the K2 classmates how to read so I guess he doesn't need to take the course now.

Where did you get the information about writing articles for the newsletter?  I didn't see this in Brian's school bag.

Kids don't need to perform in the Open Day this time.  You can check from the parent's letter about the activities available in each classroom on that day.

Miss Cheng talks to me from time to time (since I take Davin to school) & she mentioned twice that we could write article for the newsletter of the school.  Lydia, didn't you receive the first issue ?

Have you son learnt to read music note (A-G) ?  I observe that Davin has got difficulty in reading note.  Any tips ?  I surfed the web & found one software (games) that might help him but I have to purchase.

Actually I could not recall receiving the newsletter, when was the 1st issue published?
Preston was pretty good in remembering the notes (according to the piano teacher). We don't have a piano at home, but every week he goes, the teacher said he knows all the notes. Now he knows all the notes from A-G and learning to play with both hands. That's why I'm thinking of getting a piano for him to practice. You can try to use the toy piano or I sometimes use the piano books.

Do your kids know how to write? I just found out Preston knows how to write numbers. He just suddenly has interest in writing and wrote 2 full pages of numbers up to 70. But I know some kindergartens learn writing in K1 already.

Is that something to do with Kumon maths ?  He's been studying for a while & maybe he's more advanced than the others.

Davin does write letters & numbers from time to time, but definitely not from 1 to 70.

On the other hand, he has been very interested in reading Chinese & English text these days.

Preston is more advanced in writing.

For Brian, he can only writing a few numbers and letters: 1, 2, 7, C, J, L, O, T.  I guess he still cannot control the muscles at his fingers well, so he doesn't like to write.  I think the situation will change when he can control his fingers better.  Will wait and give him more encouragement from time to time.

Definitely not from Kumon, coz he's only drawing lines. I think he just thinks it's fun and play with my maid as a game. But I find his hand muscles are getting stronger recently, even the piano teacher and art teacher said that. I guess Preston is a bit older so he's a bit more advanced.

does Preston connect the dots under Kumon maths program / lesson ?  if so, maybe he sees the numbers so often that he's getting familiar with them & can write.

i don't teach davin much how to write but he just writes spontaneously.

nonetheless, that Preston is a few months older makes a difference, i believe.

I have not taught Preston how to write too. I guess they learn by observation.

The open day was quite successful. I was amazed by the performance of the K3. I hope Preston can do that when he's K3.

Did you go to the Open Day finally?

Brian and I arrived at around 10.45.  It was quite crowded.  Brian joined the activities in Room 5 and Room 6.  We then went to Room 2 to take a look at the musical instruments made my kids and we then left.

Brian was in Room 6 when the K3 kids performed at the playground.  Too bad that we missed their performance.

Both Lydia & I were there at that time.   How come we could not see you ?  Ha !

It's funny & sweet to notice that kids at this age are close to each other regardless of gender.  They are so happy to see each other.  They call each other's name immediately & hold hands or even hug together.

Were you two there at the same time?  Maybe we were in different classrooms.

It's always happy to see kids getting close together.  They interact in ways different from adults.  I am currently taking two courses about Child Psychology.  It's good that the theories I learnt can be applied well to explain some of Brian's behaviour (good or bad).

Preston & Davin played together for a while in Open Day.

I did study psychology as my minor subject but of course nothing about child psychology.  After graduation, I keep reading books about psychology & now my focus is of course about kids & parenting.

I also studied about child psychology when Preston was about 1 year old. The theory is also easy said than done. Also, every kid is different and you need to modify so as to apply well on your kid.
