Dear Sheffield and Iantsang, the current SH sounds VERY different from the one I knew when I was little (many many years ago...hahaha).  Do the kids interact with their teachers actively during class or do they still sit there listening to the teachers all day long?  Thanks!

I guess I must admit that I have the same concern from my personal experience so I almost didn't apply this kindergarten originally!

However, I think 2 years ago I was determined to research really hard try not to be biased by the past.  I can tell you it is not an easy thing to do but I guess I finally manage to try look at more updated information.

Anyway, concerning reading chapter books.  They actually start reading them since K1 every week, certainly with the help from parents to read them together for the first few times.  My daughter for example (currently K2), can recognize around one-third to half of the words on a new book.  Of course this may vary as the level of difficulty of books they receive each week are quite different.  Then after we read it with her, then she can read it by herself.

That's good to know Iantsang.  Are the books in Chinese, English or mix?  HOw's the English standard in Kindy?  And PTH?  Thank you.

I would say a bit of both?  They would sit still when they should be (majority lar, I will be lying to you if I say every single kids can do it every single days!), and can be active when they are in interaction or playing.

Anyway, just my own comment.

I will need to get back to work soon so let me answer this quickly.

Books are in Chinese and English, distributed to students on alternate week (i.e. this week Chinese then next week English).  Since K1 they will need to do reading report (just drawing pic) after reading each book.

Don't expect too much although there are normally either English and PTH teaching everyday by NET.  But the time each day is not long (I guess around 15 mins).  It depends on your expectation, for me I can accept that for a voucher receiving kindergarten, but it certainly won't match many parents' expectation nowadays if they like to be trilingual.  There are more sessions on English than PTH.

There are plenty of small Bs, I know many October and November, but be honest December small Bs I am really not sure.  But the point is at least they don't rule you out automatically based on the birth month.

yep, i would say they teach kids to be quiet or active in the right situations.  :)

indeed.  in my girl's class, i see a few super big bs, but also quite a few small bs.  my girl being one of the small bs too.  they really base on performance and not age.

For the K3 students going into SHCSPS P1 in 2014 or after, will there be 144 seats thereafter?  What I'm asking is if the number of seats will fluctuate year by year, or in a 3-year cycle.  Thanks.

The cycle of P1 is in a 6-year cycle, due to the number of classrooms available are 20, so the current cycle pattern is 3-3-4-4-3-3 (No. of classes).

So, the next time there will be around 144 seats (4 classes) in P1 would be 2013/14 and 2014/15 entrance.

The minibus terminal should be on 馬寶道 near 琴行街 (in front of 賽馬會投注處).

School bus doesn't covered 美孚 but heard there may be nanny bus helping to pickup one student this year for the AM classes.

This is the only (one) student which I am aware of who live in that nearby area and attend SHCK.  Not sure if there will be more students in the coming year but for the existing classes, this should be the only case.
