Hi dear all,
Rosaline starts her summer vacation today.
We obtained her 'Child's Development Checklist' from the school yesterday.
For the checklist, there is altogether 57 indexes.  The ranking is consisted of 4 grades being 'excellent', 'very good', 'acceptable' & 'progressive'.  
Among th 57 indexes, my daughter got 27 'excellent's & 30 'very good's.  I suppose schools or teachers incline to over-rate the result of our kids in order to make parents happy.  Thus I'm not sure if my daughter was performing really good or not.  Anyway, it is safe for me to assume my daughter being 'average'.  
In addition to the 'checklist', we are also given an album & a DVD revealing Roaline's nursery school life.  I love the album most because it is full of my daughter's pictures.
I appreciate this arrangment.
Hope all of you can also enjoy it the coming school year.

dear all,
I collected my daughter's school book yesterday.
Rosaline will be accelerated to N1E1 this Sept.
I find that they will have to learn Putonghua starting K1.

Why did you pick up the books on yesterday?  The date of pick up books should be on 30th July?????

In addition, You daughter will attend K1 in this Sep?  Is AM class or PM class.  Do you know how many class for K1?

Hi Uran,
The school has allocated two schedules for different students.  
As my daughter was in their Pre-nursery class (N1A2), we had to collect school books earlier.  
I was alarmed when I received the bundles.  
There are around 15 (or 20?) books and 7 CDs/DVDs (2 for Putonghua & another 5 for nursery rhymes.  Putonghua is a subject that is beyond my expectation as I always conceive that usually kids start learning Putonghua at K2!) Besides, there are another 3 packs of DVDs for English language.
I was wondering how a small kid at the age of 3 can handle such a large amount of studies! If your kid is below 3, I'm afraid that he/she will suffer at the initial stage.
My daugher is now watching the English DVDs daily at home.  It sounds interesting! She likes the monkey 'Charlie' very much!
My daughter will be back to school 12th August.
How about your kid?
I was on that day (23/7) informed that for N1E there would be 14 or 15 students who were originated from N1A2 and some other new students would join this September  making a total of 24 or 25.
I don't know the exact number of K1 classes.   
We had a chance to have a look how the school taught our kids on the 'Parent's Day' this June, we could see that there was around 10 classes, each class around 25 students,  altogether for AM/PM session.  
Hope your kid can enjoy studying.

Usually there are about 20 kids in one class. York has a number of classes for each form, up to 9 classes for each form.

Yes, they start learning Putonghua from K1, but trust me, they cannot manage to say much as York is quite weak in this. Afterall, this is not their emphasis. So, if the parents want their kids to be very smart in this language, u'd better get extra courses.

My kid had Graduation Party yesterday. Really can't believe that he is getting into primary school in the next 2 months. But I am sure he has enjoyed his school life at York a lot!

Alanhoky,  By the way, is your kid a repearter?  I'm quite interest and want to understand your kid's class?  Did you have a parent party in last Sat?

No, she isn't a repeater.  
She joined York's pre-nursery class this Jan when she was 34 months old.  
There was an invitation letter asking my kid to join this class along with the admission letter that we rec'd last Nov.  Of course if your child was too young, he/she would not be invited.  They could only admit babies over 32 months old.
Before starting the pre-nursery couse, we had a chance to meet the principle/teachers.  We were informed this pre-bursery class followed the same couse of ordinary K1.  (They talked in beautiful languages that only elites were chosen but I believed that age was the key! Only 14 or 15  candidates were selected. Besides, they also wanted to recruit those kids who had playgroup experience before!) It means that the students will repeat the same course again the coming Sep.   Not many parents can accept this arrangement as we two do.  It was because YMCA Int'l Kindergarten also accepted Rosaline to study K1 at that moment, and the school also invited us to start K1 earlier in March and repeat again later. (Rosaline had been in YMCA's playgroup as early as 18 months old!) As long as York could start as early as Jan, we took the offer of York.  
We had no parent's party this 23rd.  I just went there and collected the school books.
On 15/6, we could go into the kindergarten to have a look what they did in class.  I found that Rosaline could enjoy herself.  This comforted me.  
Rosaline is taking 'phonics' couse twice weekly.  She is approaching K2 level as per the tutorial school course's time table.  
She also started 'Kumon' a month ago.  Before starting the course, an assessment test had to be conducted to check if she could suit the course content.  The instructor also said that Rosaline's English level was similar to the kids who had completed K1 and was approaching K2.   I can see that Rosaline does know quite a number of vocabs.  She can also communicate with others in simple English too!  So I trust Fungmamei is right in saying that York is strong in teaching English.
Your kid will be under pressure if he/she hasn't study English before.  Parents have also to exercise cautions also.  You have to bear in mind that Rosaline is only an average kid in her class!  You have to input much more in order to enable your babies to catch up with this 14 N1E students.
